APHIS has had great success in reducing telecommunications costs by implementing these things:
· Centralized oversight of billing. This has reduced the administrative burden of managing, ordering and paying for service and equipment.
· Consolidated account management and services (i.e. agency-wide “friends and family” cellular plan). This reduced the average cost per line of service from $71 to $41.
These efforts have resulted in cost savings of over $1,000,000 (or about 25%) per year with no reduction in service.
