Consolidate and eliminate duplicative Government data centers and server infrastructure at the Federal level rather than the Department/Agency level. By more efficiently using excess data center facility and hardware capacity that currently exists within each agency, the Government will save the taxpayer millions in new server hardware investments (to include new equipment and life-cycle refresh of old equipment), annual support/maintenance costs for that that infrastructure, and allow the Federal government to become more environmentally friendly by standardizing the use of Green technology and reducing utility costs for server facilities (e.g., electricity, water, etc). Furthermore, it will increase data sharing between agencies by eliminating technical and geographical boundaries that currently limit the sharing of data. Unfortunately most agencies have their own server consolidation initiative, but a Federal-wide consolidation will achieve the most benefits and the most savings for the taxpayer.
