Agency Wide Shared Services (AWSS) should make an electronic fax service available to all areas of government. Faxing is currently time-consuming and expensive - and think of all the paper that’s wasted! Better technology is available and it’s time we put it to use. Ideally, the process would be as straightforward as sending electronic, unprinted documents online (via E-mail possibly). And we would be able to receive non-paper faxes online (or at least notifications via E-mail that a fax is waiting online). It seems the Department of Homeland Security has similar technology already. If the DHS can apply any necessary security measures for “electronic faxing,” then other federal agencies that deal with sensitive information, like the IRS, could certainly benefit from this technology too!
