Generals Insist on Unnecessary Home Remodels

On our military base, some General's and their spouses have expectations that they can remodel their government-owned home any way they want. Recently, a General requested a countertop be removed from a historic home on the base to be installed in his interim home. The reason was that the General's wife did not like the current countertop, however they would be living in the home for 1 year or less while their permanent home was being remodeled. The military personnel went out of their way to facilitate the move. I appreciate the service of our military personnel but when these folks only live in a home for 1-5 years, it is such a waste to make significant changes to the home unless they are needed.
