Government Bicycles!

I just heard about the “SAVE,” award today. I wish that I would have had more time to better breakdown my ideas but they are both fairly simple.

Idea #1:

I work for the United States Army Garrison Schweinfurt. It is a great military community. Our community is a little spread out on several sites. I think it would be a wonderful idea to have a government bicycle system for making trips between the sites. Since we are in the great country of Germany there are many already existing bicycle paths. I think this would be awesome for civilian fitness. I believe in the long run that this could help reduce repetitive strain injuries by eliminating some of the sedentary practices associated with some office jobs. Employees could get out and stretch their legs when they need to make it to a meeting that’s less than 1 kilometer away. If each employee had an issued messenger bag and helmet then the bicycles could also be used for official mail runs etcetera.

There are a number of ways this could be set up...as a take a bike leave a bike system, or each office could sign for GS bikes just like they do their vehicles.

Please give ideas/suggestions in the comments.
