We should do everything we can to reduce costs associated with office accommodations if a viable telecommute alternative exists. In general, more work can and is performed at home environments when secure communications and local physical security exists. With the employee bearing part of the costs associated with home office and communications and the Government able to close office space (and associated costs), it's a win win situation for both Government and employee. The reduction in travel time and fuel also saves on overall energy needs and eases traffic problems and accidents. Real estate and office setups to support office environments are a great expense to the Government. Management must be convinced and sometimes forced to accept telecommute alternatives.
