General Services Administration

Reduction of Government Travel Costs

If "price assurance" is good enough and simple enough for "" to administer, then it should work for us: Government Air Fares and Lodging Rates are typically negotiated. This effort is costly, unnecessary, and doesn't guarantee the lowest rate. The Government is willing to pay a fair and reasonable rate. As such, rates should be established based on the lowest historical seasonal rates and then those rates should be pro-rated to lowest actual fare or rate paid for the actual pre-established period or season. This would reduce the workload and uncertainty of what is fair, and will eliminate the repetitive and needless negotiation for these same services- thus reducing the overhead rates of the Government AND the Contractors (ultimately further reducing the respective prices). This is the ultimate fair and reasonable approach for establishing prices for Government travel expenditures.
