Every Federal employee should receive an iphone to replace their desk phone

Every Federal government employee should eventually be issued a smart phone as their primary telephone number. This could be done on a phased approach totally eliminating desktop phones in five years. All deskphones should be eliminated where there is cell coverage. This will save the government millions of dollars in maintaining current telecommunication equipment. Most employees carry around two phones, personal, ...more »

cancel $32B/yr NASA program

NASA should be disbanded. Inherently government programs (test facilities, launch facilities) shall go to the AirForce. The rest of the programs (research facilities and DeepSpaceNetwork) and funding shall go to the universities. The bureaucracy around the NASA empire has shifted to a nationalistic secrecy that mostly supports the military not the original and current charters of improving science and technology education ...more »

Eliminate NASA

Space exploration no longer serves a purpose for national defense. Scientific research should be performed in areas that will benefit consumers, not space explorers.

Printing

Each worker should have to pay for paper and ink that is used (through their respective departments). If we tracked paper and ink usage on an individual basis, this would save huge $ and cut down on printing that is unnecessary.

Going Broke

Eliminate the Dept. of Education, Dept. of Energy, cut all Congressional staff by two-thirds, eliminate all alternative fuel subsidies, eliminate all farm support subsidies, eliminate all federal employee unions - and then start real spending cuts, beginning with a 10% accross-the-board cut in every Department.

Reduce Federal employee sick leave benefit from 4 hours a pay period to 2 hours a pay period.

Reduce sick leave benefit for federal workers from 4 hours a pay period to 2 hours a pay period. Make it effective for all federal workers immediately. The immediate and long term savings would be tremendous. The current beneift is extremely generous and a reduced amount would still be fair.

Agriculture is an issue that can be handled by the states. The US Constitution does not authorize the federal government to be involved in it.

Health Care Savings for all government employees and Congress

Enroll all employees into the VA Health Care System, except for persons whose residence is geographically challenged to travel to a VA Medical Center. A portion of the projected health benefit costs could be appropriated to the VA to enhance services, where needed, for our veterans and our government employees. It would save taxpayer, and employees' families money, and send a message of confidence in the health care ...more »

Eliminate the EPA

Seriously. What has the Environmental Protection Agency done to protect the environment in the Gulf of Mexico since the BP oil platform explosion? All we hear is how stupid bureaucratic regulations are getting in the way of the necessary cleanup. Get rid of the EPA - we could save billions.

Furlough

My suggestion would be for all Federal Government to take one Furlough day, unless the position is imparitive to the running of the country. The day would be the day after Thanksgiving or December 23rd. The cost savings alone would be huge.

End the 8 hour leave category.

To give employees the equivalent of a month off every year on top of all of the holidays we receive is just too costly. 6 hours of leave every pay period is more than sufficient, and is difficult enough to use up. As a taxpayer, this is an entitlement that needs serious adjustment.

Ban AC

Stop air conditioning Federal buildings, official government vehicles, to demonstrate to the American people the Federal government is serious about saving energy and saving money. Start at the central office level and migrate it out to regional and field offices gradually. That will show the public they can get along without air conditioning, saving money, energy, and the planet.
