Extend the Thanksgiving Holiday to include the Friday After for ALL Federal Employees: Could save at least $600 million

I suggest you...make the day after Thanksgiving a federal holiday for all federal employees. Including the Friday after Thanksgiving, as part of the Thanksgiving holiday, will reduce the amount of money spent for utilities, guard services, janitorial and other support services. Some federal government entities provide services directly to the public and usually work with a "skeleton crew" the day after Thanksgiving. ...more »

CFC

Eliminate paper copies of the possible CFC charities. Each employee receives a large pamphlet full of them every year. In today's day and age employees should be required to access it via the Internet.

Work from home / Flexiplace

I suggest that the Government prioritze flexiplace and other work from home arrangements for work that can be performed in that setting. This would dramatically reduce energy spent every day in commuting and would increase morale and productivity.

Deceased but paid

Social Security currently loses millions of dollars and waste thousands of hours because of deceased beneficiaries who continue to get paid. We have a system called DACUS to track these checks and to terminate these checks. In my experience, the vast majority of these DACUS alerts are present because funeral homes do not contact the Social Security Administration to report deaths. We spend countless hours tracking down ...more »

Eliminate $255 Lump-Sum Death Benefit

This one-time benefit no longer satisifies its original intent, has never been increased with inflation, and does little to decrease cost of a person's final expenses. The cost to the government and taxpayer to accept, adjudicate, process, and make payment further decreases its actual value. Eliminate it all together and extend the solvency of social security; our most necessary trust fund and social safety net.

Non Productive employees

Fire people who come to work and don't do anything all day long. Last time I checked we are not being paid to roam the halls, text message, and have 3 hour long talks with our friends. And fire the people immediately that cheat the sign in sheets.

Out of Jail, where's my Check?

We should not allow a SSI recipient who is currently on SSI and then is convicted of a crime in which time is served, the chance to get back on SSI; at the very least for some years. Currently if I was convicted of a felony or served time in jail, I would lose my government job and no longer have the privilege of earning government money.. Sound cruel? I don't think so. So why can we not eliminate-or at least punish ...more »

Social Security and Medicare Unite

As a service representative for the Social Security Administration, every day I see people come into our field office who think that we are Medicare. Sure, we do limited things for Medicare- since they don't have offices for public service-such as part B applications and part D subsidy applications, however, the majority of the people I see that think that we are Medicare come in because they have detailed and complex ...more »

Cap for SSI payments for family members

I suggest that Supplemental Security Income (SSI) be capped at a certain amount per family. Currently we have many families who visit Social Security and who receive SSI who may have a parent receiving SSI and 3 or more children under age 18 years old also receiving SSI. With there being no cap on the amount that a family can receive a family of 4 individuals receiving SSI would receive $2696.00 per month. Remember also ...more »
