Reward for Award, Reward To Awardees Ideas Accepted

Description: I submit the idea of providing a tangible “Reward” from the government to those people whose ideas will or are being utilized by the government through the 2010 President's SAVE Award. An idea suggestion that is found to be of use or will be or is implemented is deserving of a tangible reward (i.e. monetary or an object or otherwise). The current announcement for the 2010 President's SAVE Award is, “… ...more »

Get rid of the support overhead.

Ditch all Apple computers and electronics in the Federal Government. They are fragile, "Thou Steve Jobs may argue otherwise" poorly designed and it cost extra to support them.

Lessons Learned from Govt Improvement Initiatives

Please note that I never worked with DIMHRS and don't know if any of my coworkers had either. However, as a federal employee, I think some of the problems were obvious. Background: DIMHRS was the DoD's initiatiative to consolidate 100+ personnel programs into a single application. After over 12 years and $1B spent, it was reportedly stated to be a disaster by Joint Chief of Staff Chair Mike Mullen and cancelled (?) ...more »

Air Conditioning Setting

Direct all Federal agencies to set air conditioning at a minimum of 76 degrees, absent a mission specific reason to keep the room colder. Too much energy is wasted keeping rooms uncomfortably cold, to the point where many workers have to wear jackets or sweaters indoors in the summer.

Eliminate Train Reservation/Ticket Fees

Instead of requiring employees to go through AdTrav for train tickets at a cost of $30.50 a trip, allow us to use Amtrak.com to make our own reservations and purchase tickets. (Corporation for National and Community Service)

save money on managers

In my branch there are more managers than we need and way too many program leaders. We need more workers. We are well educated and professional and can do our jobs without so many program leaders (13s) and branch chiefs (14s). This is a huge waste of money. For this few people and with all the training we have, only one branch chief is needed, not the 5 we have now.

Saving paper

If all printers capable of printing double sided were made to do so by default, it would save lots of money and resources.

Federal Software Development Center proposed

As a senior career software development contractor of over 30 years, I observe monumental wasted effort in reinventing the same or similar applications across different agencies and departments. Significant savings can be realized by synergistic consolidation of knowlege and technology sharing. My idea is to create a Federal entity to provide a software development infrastructure, and thereby ease the financial burden ...more »

Eliminate the Distribution of Federal Registers

I suggest discontinuing the distribution of the Federal Register by the United States Government Printing Office via the Postal Service. With the availability of the Federal Register online (and most agencies not using them anymore or being advised of changes), this would greatly decrease use of paper resources, put less stress on the United States Postal Service, and assist with eliminating more waste in our landfills. ...more »

Use only e-bills

Eliminate mailing of bills and send bills to customers electronically only. The amount of savings will be realized in paper, stamps, labor, printer wear and is the correct example for all businesses.

Cutting Excessive Spending

I believe the government should be paying for managers meals, drinks, vehicles, insurance, gas, housing and medical bills on every occasion. I think the amount of money billed for meetings and events needs to be tracked more carefully and not abused. Nor should a politician live in a home that uses 7 times the normal americans yearly energy consumption, PER DAY. Lets help ground our leaders and get our economy back on ...more »

Reduce Excess Expenditures on Lavish Offices/Conference Rooms

Enact government facility standards to reduce such excesses as lavish conference suites and offices. While mahogany wall treatments and etched glass panels provide a beautiful setting and a pleasant environment, spending has far exceeded what we can afford. The standard for most agencies should be a comfortable, energy saving, functional workspace without all of the excesses seen at all levels of government and in all ...more »
