Combine HR Reference and Security Background Checks.

Consolidate efforts with HR reference checks and security back ground checks and clearances. A unilateral system where access is granted to both services HR and Background investigations would save the government hundreds of thousands of work-hours and save significant time and energy gathering much duplicate information. Employees could also be hired much more quickly and background checks completed in less time. This ...more »

Reduce OWCP Medical Costs

I suggest that employees who are injured in the performance of duty be required to seek medical care from only contracted physicians and health networks. The ability of employees to select their own personal physician results in high costs to the Federal government. Private and State workers' compensation programs all require injured employees to see contracted physicians for medical care. This will reduce medical ...more »

Use Zip Car instead of GOV

Government owned vehicles cost tax payers a lot of money for purchse, upkeep and parking fees. Why not belong to a car sharing service, and use a car when it's needed?

ATM fees

While TDY I obtained funds from the ATM. When I returned home and completed my travel voucher I noticed that I was being charged twice for using the ATM. One amount is the what the back charges and the other one is what the travel agency charges which is a percentage of funds received. Why are there two charges for available funds?

Flexiplace

Require that agencies allow professional employees to work from home if they wish. Managers are not permitting employees to use flexiplace or flexitime options, because they are afraid of losing control if the employees are not physically reporting to the office each day. Savings in energy for commuting, increased morale, and other benefits have been documented repeatedly, yet agencies simply will not act on this.

Remove impediments to productivity by eliminating all management positions with "associate" or "assistant" in the job title.

I suggest that all management positions with "associate" or "assistant" in the job title be eliminated. Most positions with "associate" or "assistant" in the job title are, in reality, excess layers of management which only impede the work flow. There are far too many "chiefs" for too few "indians." Go back to the "reinvention" ideas formulated under President Clinton (e.g., one management person for every eight non-management ...more »

Take advantage of Sales and Special Discounts from Vendors

Allow flexability in the accounting system to take advantage of sales and special rates. Too often we pay full price, when something could be on sale due to early applications and submission for example. Recently, SAS was offering a discount from the published price for a class if payment was received by a certain date. We sent the full payment long before the cutoff date for the discount because the full price was already ...more »

Support Healthy Lifestyle Choices

More and more studies have shown that healthy employees are productive employees, yet with the amount of time we spend working, commuting, family, etc. many Feds have limited time to devote to wellness activities and fitness. In the military, working out three times a week (during duty hours) is encouraged and often enforced by many unit commanders. Allot time during the regular workday to allow employees to go to that ...more »

Consolidate federal training institutes

Each federal agency should consolidate its training offices and institutes to reduce travel and staffing costs, and take advantage of synergies. The Dept. of Labor, for example, has separate training institutes for OSHA, MSHA, VETS, EBSA, etc. Yet many courses teach the same thing: how to investigate a claim, document a case file, establish that discrimination or retaliation has occurred, etc. The OSHA training institute ...more »
