Disaster Assistance Notification

Discontinue the practice of mailing application packages for disaster assistance based on the disaster victims FEMA registration. Many of the packages are not completed and returned. If they wish to apply, the disaster applicant can print the application forms from the sba.gov website, use the electronic loan application program, visit a disaster recovery center and also has the option to call or email the customer service ...more »

No more Bond Guarantee

Get rid of the Surety Bond Guarantee Program. The program is just as bad as giving mortgages to people that do not meet income guidelines.

Online Learning Management System

Implement an online learning management system to record and track employee training. Too much time and money is spent on the printing, collecting and filing of training sign-in sheets and completion certificates. An online system would eliminate hard-copy training files. Certain training reports, most of which take a large amount of time to prepare, would become obsolete. Management would have instant access to employee ...more »

Buy the truth and sell it not

With 40% of the employees approaching retirement, more focus should be given to retaining their experience and wisdom by sharing and mentoring others, especially potential managers. Transitioning into training programs should begin as early as possible.

A database of procedures with as much descriptive information should also be availble to help trainees to find established "tried and true" methods and procedures

Stimulate Small Business Job Growth

The most critical failure in the economic recovery of the nation is the fact that unemployment remains at over 9%. This not only reduces the income of many American families and their ability to purchase consumer goods, it also affects the overall confidence of the American people in a way that further hampers recovery. My recommendation is that the Administration work directly with small businesses to provide a subsidy ...more »

Accountability

Accountability for how US dollars are spent should be at the level of the person making the decision. It is not right for a director to use federal dollars to fund fuel in his personal airplane so that he can maintain his hours for pilot licensure. His job does not require that he fly a plane, especially solo and the waste is unnecessary. Flying commercially would be less expensive, if necessary.

Cutting waste on procurement of high-tech products

I suggest that the research funds used for procurement should be at least be cut in half so that Program Managers and Technical Monitors can start thinking about how they procure new products wisely. Every year over half of the research funds from DOD, DOE, NASA, and other funding agencies (which amounts to over hundred million dollars) have been wasted on procuring R&D products from high-tech companies that failed to ...more »

Free OS and Open Source Programs

Change from Windows to a free Operating System (e.g. Linux), this would be extremely beneficial beacuse of the high prices of antivirus and high Windows cost. Also implement the use of Open Source programs such as Openoffice instead of Microsoft Office, these are free and would reduce costs by millions of dollars. Some government agencies already use these, but most don't.

Change the SBAs Gauranty Purchase Program to prevent foreclosures

Currently the Guaranty Purchase Program requires banks to close the business and liquidate all its collateral (including foreclosing on commercial and personal real estate) before being paid their guaranty. Not only is this an expensive process (requiring large legal fees and then expensive care and preservation expenses in which the government shares 75% of the cost) ; but it puts people out of work, and increases ...more »

Health

The Government pays huge amounts into health insurance and benefits. I believe we should offer incentives for people to live better. Free Gym Memberships for Government Employees. Free Nutritional Planning and Personal Training. Think of all the injuries and diseases related to poor diet and little/no exercise. Offer Cash Awards for Employees with the fewest amount of Medical Claims. Encourage those that are sick ...more »

Succession Planning – Ten Lists of Ten

Succession Planning – Ten Lists of Ten Succession planning seems ad hoc at best. There are many stories about the institutional knowledge that is lost when a worker leaves and a wave of retirements is expected in the next few years. I realize that it was never a likelihood that a successor could be brought in and trained by the person leaving (if such was desirable), but it seems to me that there should be a more ...more »

Paperless Office- no more faxes

Currently we fax all of our correspondence to lenders- this requires staff to fax documents, paper, fax machines, electricity, etc. I proposed that we email all of the correspondence- it will reduce our impact on the environmental, save money, and most importantly improve the experience for our lender-customers.
