Reestablishing the US Postal Savings Bank

Based on the OP-ED of Michael Hinds---"Mailing Our Way to Solvency" (NY Times 10/06/08). The USPS needs to sell postage to stay in business; individuals and families need to have a good saving program and the federal government needs to create domestic capital to fund our deficit, so our dollars stay here to expand the U.S. economy. Allow the USPS to reorganize the Postal Savings System, and offer a tax-exempt/government ...more »

RECOMMENDATIONS FOR CONSIDERATION

SUGGESTIONS: 1. Reduce or eliminate industry discounts/subsidies on U.S. government postal services. Tax payers support this service. 2. Reduce or eliminate subsidies for charitable postal services. 3. The best resource we have to give to the world is the knowledge, experience, and ideas of our people. Send our people to countries that need our help, not money. Our engineers, farmers, managers can do more good ...more »

The future of Postal resources - How to use what we already have...

- My suggestion is that as the demand for mail type postal service diminishes and the US postal service reduces it days, hours and labor needed to distribute the mail, those resources be reorganized and realigned to provide services for other non-profit city, county and federal organizations. - I have volunteered at a county hospital, school and a homeless shelter in the past and found that they were always in need of ...more »

Agency Software Interfacing USPS Website Mandate

Many Federal Agencies that provide direct public service and have any connection to mailings of notices, awards/payments such as the VA,Social Security,OPM, etc would save substantial time and reduce to a great extent non-receipts of payments (financial hardship) and letters by simply mandating within their software used to administer Agency programs " Address Input Screens that Directly interface with the USPS website." ...more »

eliminate postage stamps

Postage stamps should be eliminated. Everything should be done electronically by computers, stamps.com, internet. Making stamps costs a ton of money. written mail can be sent by e-mail. Bills can be paid online. Fedex, UPS are online.

Cut USPS delivery days down and close some Post Offices

Only deilver mail 4 days a week. Cut the cost of a couple days of delivery. Don't deliver mail on Tuesday or Thursday. Or at least do away with Saturday delivery. So much money wasted keeping underutilized Post Offices open and postal workers on the street delivery less and less mail.

Small ads on USPS boxes/envelopes

Allow advertising on USPS boxes and envelopes. The USPS could really use the income to offset huge liablities and placing a small ad on each mailing would generate a huge amount of money.

FreeMail Postcards

Most small businesses use a printing/mailing house that mails under the "houses" permit #. Unfortunately, that makes it difficult to track revenue spent by individual companies because bulk mail houses are not actively managed by the USPS marketing teams. Therefore, it is difficult to justify how effective the sales force is/has been say, with sales calls because $ tracking by customer shows no permit volume, and revenue ...more »

Alternating Mail Delivery Days to Save $120 Billion

I suggest that the USPS begin normal mail delivery on alternating days. The savings estimated by the USPS for eliminating one day of service is $40 Billion. By alternating days, the savings would be greater, as the same carrier, along with their associated vehicle that delivered on Route A on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, would also deliver on Route B on Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday. This would result in a reduction ...more »
