Empower Employees with Skype

This capability would allow employees to reduce travel funds by holding face-to-face meetings on Skype. A live video will allow a personal connection, without the cost of traveling long distances for relatively short meetings. It is a no-cost option within the United States and would monopolize on technology already available to the masses. Currently, the federal government does not have an agreement with Skype, as it ...more »

Open Source Software

Dear Mr. President: In my opinion the key to cost-effective business telephone systems across public sector could be using open source software. I think it is very crucial and critical for the public sector to be cost-conscious and especially in a cost-conscious and competitive marketplace that we see and live in today. In the present day open source software is widely used in private sector and also widely recognized ...more »

Teleconferencing for the Modern Age

Centralize and modernize teleconferencing capabilities across the government. Rather than the current ad hoc government approach that results in inefficiencies and redundancies, have a centralized, online system to request teleconferences. This would not only ensure administrative efficiency, but also promote the use of teleconferencing in lieu of meetings which require travel time and time to set-up facilities.

Waste of IT money

Stop having companies create surveys and other internet related items. We have plenty of government employees that can do the same thing and save money at the same time since we are not paying a ridiculous amount of money to have someone else to do it for us.

A government office that updates and controls all IT systems

The vast majority of complaints about the federal government that I hear (at work and outside of work) fall under one of two categories - "out-dated computer systems that are inefficient" and "the work is contracted out so we have no control over it." Being a new federal employee I was very surprised by the amount of time it takes to complete a task because the information management system is very ineffient, out-dated, ...more »

Cell Phone and Cell Phone Plan Savings

This idea will save on cell phone costs, plan costs, and administrative costs. Instead of regulating federally assigned cell phones that employees carry, give the employees a stipend and allow them the freedom to choose a plan that fits the needs of the government and the employee. The employee will be responsible for the phone and plan payments.

Telecom expense management

Following the logic of a government administration, the telecommunication asset is managed by different parties: phone sets is a property item, contracts is a procurement task, bills is financial issue. The general trend worldwide is to centralize the information in one point that has a technical background and analytical behavior to implement “Telecom expense management” solutions. If such function is created in each ...more »
