Overseas Local Hires

The DoD's policy and instruction to the Forces mandates the return of DoD civilian appropriated fund employees back to CONUS after 5 years, with few exceptions. However, many, many of these employees were never employed in the continental US (local hires) and therefore do not receive benefits averaging more than $50,000 per employee per year. These employees are being non-extended in their overseas tours at 5 years... more »

Change of Command Ceremonies

I suggest you have the DOD eliminate Change of Command ceremonies. Read online article: Gen. Alston takes reins of 20th Air Force, http://www.af.mil/news/story.asp?id=123212238 or 36th Wing ushers in new CC, http://www.andersen.af.mil/news/story.asp?id=123212074 After reading the articles have the GAO calculate the cost of transportation, lodging, and hours of manpower lost to have Wing formations and personnel to... more »

Saving money and cutting back

I really think that the government should leave social security alone so when people retire they will have it. Another thing the health insurance reform there is too many taxes that we have to pay to support it and it should not happen. Another thing when owning real estate and when selling it there should not be a capitol gains tax at all. Rent income should not be taxable at all. Plus there should be a hiring freeze... more »

SSRNM Array Duplication not needed!

I suggest you eliminate the new Surface Ship Radiated Noise Measurement System bottom mounted array system at the Atlantic Undersea Test and Evaluation Center (AUTEC). Currently, there is a state of the art acoustic measurement system at AUTEC, the proposed array system is a duplicate effort and not required. Nearly $2 million has been spent in the last 7 years with another $8 million slated to be spent in the next... more »

Military Installation Solar--Bill Payer

With over a Billion Square feet of roof area in the US Army alone...if only a percentage of that area was used for renewable solar energy panels, the Armys power bill would be reduced significantly. Apply across all federal installations, and skys the limit!

LINUX vs $$+MICROSOFT+$$

REPLACE: The constantly increasing “EXPENSIVE” Microsoft operating systems and applications with the “FREE” Linux OpenSource operating systems and applications. COST SAVINGS: Government-wide, this could reduce the IT budgets by several billion dollars, which would make monies available to pay for hiring a team of government employees to maintain security and operability of Linux software packages. SECURITY: Linux is... more »

Budgetary issues and possible corrective actions.

I suggest an analysis at all Air Force Bases and all other affiliated armed forces locations world-wide to review and analyze their reimburseable & non-reimburseable Comptroller/Budgetary issues. Many bases are not aware of the amounts of non-reimburseable (lost money) they are paying out/losing every Fiscal Year (FY). Through a AFSO21 analysis I co-facilitated on, many of these issues came to attention and clear problems... more »

Save the U.S. Post Office (Here's How)

My latest idea comes in the form of saving the U.S. Post Office as well as the consumers. As of late the Post Office would like to raise prices on stamps, post cards, and the mailing of parcels. I also understand they would like Congress to approve stopping Saturday deliveries. I'm here to propose not having to do any of this in favor of authorizing the consumers the ability to purchase electronic postage credits through... more »

Military and Contractor 'Summits'

Stop the Military and Contractor 'orgies' called summits and conferences. Sure there are some good issues and ideas to be exchanged. But, does it have to be at the local Casino Ballroom or at the local Hyatt? We HAVE facilities on base that can be used. No, it's not as fancy or comfortable. But, then why should getting a million dollar contract from the government (tax payers mone) be fancy and comfortable. Use the Govt... more »
