Campaign: Executive Office of the President

Allow employees to purchase desktop office supplies with gift cards.

If the average office has spent $500/person/year over the last 5 years on desktop supplies, give each employee $250 in refillable gift cards each year and let them purchase their own desktop. Employees will wait for sales, go on Craigslist, use coupons, go to surplus stores and do whatever they can to maintain a high gift card balance. If the employee doesn’t use the entire gift card, it is theirs to keep. The government ...more »

Natural Disaster (Wildfire) Cost Reduction

Authorities should be given to federal agencies to purchase land, homes, or other "values" to reduce large wildfire cost or in protection from other natural disasters. Many times millions of dollars are spent to save a "value" when the "value" of the item is a fraction of the cost to protect. This authority would keep public, rescue, other federal, state, and/or local responders, and firefighters safe and allow for real ...more »

Modify Building Temperatures to Save Energy and Money

Government office buildings are inefficiently climate-controlled. They are uncomfortably cold in the summer, and uncomfortably hot in the winter. Someone who is dressed appropriately for the climate outside has to make extra plans to accomodate opposing conditions inside all day. I understand that federal regulations dictate the temperature that federal buildings must be kept, but overcompensating for external temperature ...more »

Outside Contractor Rating System and Database

Why do we have seperate outside contractors used for every department? The idea is to have a Federal database built and run by our own IT staff that is used by ALL branches and departments for the hiring, rating, and voting of contractors. We can control the voting system by using a sign in system like the one used on this site. This process will save money immediately by raising competition which in turn lowers cost. ...more »

Strongly encourage all Federal Prisons to grow their own produce and compost the excess waste.

There are many federal prisons that have enough space to effectively grow enough vegetation to reduce the amount of produce purchased from outside sources. This would also help the environment by decreasing the amount of fuel used to ship and transport produce purchased on a weekly basis. The compost would be an asset to the earth and help to replenish and stabilize nutrients within the ground. The consumption of ...more »
