Telework for all Federal Gov't and DoD

Radical expansion of Telework policy will increase employee retention/satisfaction while grossly descreasing transportantion and other costs associated with operating facilities. Positive impacts will be seen environmentally, energy wise, cost of doing business, opportunity costs, personal expenses, etc... However, we should understand some organizations and positions are required to be performed in person depending ...more »

GET THE ACTUAL VOTES AND TALLY THE TOTAL OF ALL LIKE IDEAS.

Combine all the similar topics into one to tally actually votes. Who has the time to read through 16k plus ideas? That sounds like a waste of Government time and money. For instance there are nearly 10,000 telework, tele-commute, telecommute, work from home, etc. these should all be tallied and then count the total votes. Do I have to take the time to read through all of these? The point was made with one; although ...more »

Employee provided cell phones

Allow government employees to use their personal cell phones for government work and give them an allowance to do so. This would eliminate many government cell lines and contracts and reduce the need for many employees to hold two phones. A typical government cell contract costs about $600 per year, a blackberry $1200 per year. Providing $250 stipend to an employee to provide their own cell phone could save millions of ...more »

Export-Import Bank of the United States

Facilitate import export with international countries

I advise that you facilitate import export with/betweem international countries such as North Africa etc... - they have excellent cheap products that are almost impossible to import in the states. This would cut spending if customs and USDA etc would be controlled but less expensive. We would get more exotic, tasteful and cheap products in the states. Please would not have to go obese with junk food but would have more ...more »

Eliminate Fee-for-Service Funding Mechanism for Publishing Services at USGS

I suggest that you eliminate the fee-for-service funding mechanism for publishing services at the U.S. Geological Survey. The time and effort spent on managing the Enterprise Publishing Network's accounting process is wasteful and detracts from the time workers spend on getting the actual reports edited and produced for scientists. The scientists resent the costs they must pay out of their project funds to get material ...more »

Computer Power Saving can save over $200 million a year in Energy cost

Computer Power Saving SAVES over 200 million a year. Sleep mode allows the computer to basically shut off except it saves all the work on the desktop after a set time frame. Suggestion would be one hour of inactivity. The user then would only need to press the space bar and the computer is on and able to be logged into to continue work. Most users are instructed to leave computers on all the time for updates etc. ...more »

Solar Power and Eco-friendly facilites and equipment

We could save millions of dollars in costs just by building better facilities and improving existing facilities and equipment to be more eco-friendly. Currently the El Paso Border Patrol station is an example of the improvements that can be made in this area by using eco-friendly materials as well as solar power which currently supplies almost 20 % of the stations power needs. By utilizing solar power for facilities ...more »

Automatic Computer Shut Down

DHS has an estimated 200,000 employes and contractors who use laptops and desktop computers for their work every day. But when workers leave the office, many of them do not take the time to shut down their computer. This naturally begs the question: how much money could DHS save by remotely turning off idle computers? Assumptions: -10% of workers leave their computers on overnight (20,000) -The average computer uses ...more »

Employee Talents

Invest in your employees talents!

Reduce the cost of outside vendors, decorators, artist, musicians, and painters. We have the talent already within the workforce. As a recent new hire I have met many builders, painters, and artist, photographers who are so very talented, and would love having a chance to express their passions. Decrease the cost of outside vendors, by investing within your team.

Got Soap???

Establish partnerships with colleges (science departments) to reduce government spending on: SOAP.

College laboratories make this daily and we pay market cost for this necessity.

This partnership could be used by colleges to reduce tuition cost or establish scholarships.

Reduce the Load of DOD Non-military Awards

Revamp totally the part of the DOD award system not associated with military ribbons and medals. Beyond the time-honored system of awarding medals and ribbons to the military members is an incredible plethora of "other awards", mostly for civilians, throughout DOD that have grown up over the decades to the point that the management of this "other awards" system takes untold multi-thousands of labor hours DOD-wide. And ...more »

UNDOCUMENTED IMMIGRATION SOLUTION:SELF FUNDED DETERRENT PREVENTING THE HIRING OF UNDOCUMENTED WORKERS

I suggest a new type of proactive solution in the form of an enforcement system to deter the hiring of undocumented workers (illegal aliens, deportable/inadmissible aliens) through self funded economic incentives (monetary rewards) generated by fines. It will encourage the public to report violators and discourage employers from hiring undocumented workers. A percentage of the fines levied on employers of undocumented ...more »
