50% of a Federal Employee's work hours should be when most of the community he services is off work.

This will make federal workers more available to citizens.

The energy & communication costs should be lower during non-peak hours.

Get Rid of the "DEAD WEIGHT" Retire Early!

Once every 3 years have early retirement and get rid of some dead weight who do no more than come to work and gripe..."I've been here for years, they're still not doing it right, they should do this, they should do that, etc. With this eager hard working younger employees can utilize their skills, agility, speed, and more ideas. You will then have a more productive Federal asset with a solid future.

Enhanced Use Lease Partnership With Utility Companies

Enhanced Use Lease (EUL) will allow federal and DoD installations to leverage existing land for supporting alternative energy initiatives by utility companies. These installations could then be taken off the grid, reduce carbon footprint, and provide for cheaper utility rates for all by having alternative energy infrastructure closer to the point of need. Alternative benefit would be utility companies can meet required ...more »

Mandate Alternative Energy for Federal Facilities

The gov't should be leading the way with alternative energy. It is time to mandate that all federal facilities develop a plan to run at 50% on alternative energy. Alternative energy is available through windmills, water generators, solar power and synthetic fuels. By forcing federal facilities to move to alternative energy, it reduces costs to the taxpayers and same valuable resources. I would much prefer to see a ...more »

Use Open Source

Use open source products rather than 3rd party. This idea would eliminate tremendous amounts of money that is wasted buying products with no comparative advantage. For example, consider how much is spent on every government employee to provide a slew of Microsoft products that are mostly not used, provide no comparative benefit to citizens, and provide no tangible benefit to users over open source versions? This idea ...more »

BALANCING LIFE AND THE MISSION: COMPRESSED SCHEDULING IN LAW ENFORCEMENT

Over the past few decades, many state and municipal law enforcement departments across the country have studied the advantages and disadvantages of implementing a compressed work schedule (CWS) for their uniformed officers and agents. “Lateral thinking,” coined by Edward de Bono (1970) is a set of approaches and techniques designed to find radically new approaches to problems - to come at them from the side rather than ...more »

Federal Sales Tax

Implement a federal sales tax and do away with the income tax. I think this has been proposed before and the study showed that we would actually get more money annually. Think about it. No federal tax taken out of an employee's check means more spending power. When they buy, the federal sales tax applies. Additionally, accountants still keep a job. Someone has to track all those purchases.

Unplug the Federal Government

I suggest that all government employees unplug non essential electrical items like microwaves, t.v.'s that aren't being used, empty computer desks, etc. If every item was unplugged when not in use it would save millions in electicity costs thus reducing the overall cost of our annual budget in federal buildings. I also think it would be beneficial to unplug every item we use during the work day at the end of the work ...more »

Description: Thirty percent of the states allow Hotel Tax Exemptions for Federal employees on official travel. To obtain the exemption, the employee submits a form to the hotel at check-in. The Office of Aerospace Medicine (AAM) discovered many employees were not taking advantage of this opportunity. As a cost savings initiative, AAM developed and implemented a process for employees to use the GSA hotel tax exemption ...more »
