GSA Fleet Sharing and Accountability Could Save $6Billion and Environment

GSA has about 212,000 vehicles in its fleet divided among 75 federal agencies. Most of these vehicles are assigned to individuals ie. one vehicle one man. Last year alone, GSA spent $287 Million to buy 17, 205 new vehicles to its fleet bringing the new number to about 220, 205 vehicles. Each vehicle than requires insurance, gas, toll expenses, parking fees in some instances, violations etc etc. Lest not forget most of ...more »

UNDOCUMENTED IMMIGRATION SOLUTION: SELF FUNDED DETERRENT PREVENTING THE HIRING OF UNDOCUMENTED WORKERS

I suggest a new type of proactive solution in the form of an enforcement system to deter the hiring of undocumented workers (illegal aliens, deportable/inadmissible aliens) through self funded economic incentives (monetary rewards) generated by fines. It will encourage the public to report violators and discourage employers from hiring undocumented workers. A percentage of the fines levied on employers of undocumented ...more »

Passports and Green Cards (Go electronic w/these security updates)

I realize the “make a suggestion” contest phase is over; but this idea is AMAZING. I am suggesting that in every passport issued by the United States, and our allies, be equipped with a locator (similar to the tracker embedded in pets by the human society) woven into the electronic verification information (like the CAC card chip); that will contain all of the individuals pertinent information to include the picture ...more »

Save Hundreds/Thousands of Dollars on Health Care Premiums by Offering a 2-Party Health Care Plan

The Federal Government and its employees could save hundreds of dollars each month if there was a 2-Party health care plan option offered, not just a Family plan. I was a single parent for 15 years (just recently married) and all other employment before working for the Government offered 2-Party plans. My insurance premium more than doubled (nearly tripled) going to a Family plan. Besides single parents, there are a lot ...more »

Reduce workplace injury while increasing productivity via stretching

Aid physical ability to increase worker productivity and reduce workplace injury. Sore muscles and general aches are common, so why not take an idea from private industry, both industrial and office based, that have optional (and somtimes mandatory), calisthenics and stretching exercises openly available to its employees. For example, I’ve been in a manufacturing facility which provided their workers stretches and routines ...more »

Redesign the Section-8 program into a Transitional Housing Program

What: Redesign the Section-8 program into a Transitional Housing Program (THP). How: The idea is to transform the current program into a program that will help individuals and their families transition into independent status within 6 months. This program will restructure the Section-8 funding. Average families typically stay in the program for 2-3 years if not longer, and HUD currently pays market rate for this service. ...more »

All federal documents and shipping should be mandated to go USPS and it should go for free.

All federal documents and shipping should be mandated to go USPS and it should go for free. No federal agency should be required to pay another federal agency for services and we need to start with USPS, not charging other federal agencies for postage. Shuffling payments back and forth between federal agencies just adds to the cost of doing business. USPS is being subsidized from the federal budget anyway, why continue ...more »

Operate the Federal Health Insurance system like a contract.

Instead of having so many choices in the Federal Health Insurance program, issue a 5 year contract (Base year and 4 option years). Select the top 5 providers based on price and benefits (including Dental coverage), each year the providers would be rated by the federal employees which have selected that specific provider, any provider receiving an unacceptable rating would not have their option renewed and a new provider ...more »

Instead of using proprietary operating systems Like Microsoft consider going to an Open Database Standard like Ubuntu.

Why continue to pay for proprietary operating systems like Microsoft when open database standard products like Ubuntu are available for free. The government pays millions every year for Microsoft enterprise licenses, for not only its operating system (Windows) but for its Office suite browser etc. All of these products are available in the open database standers arena and all are configured to work with Ubuntu. On ...more »
