Better way to book travel than GovTrip

Provide better ways to arrange for travel than GovTrip. There are other options that would save more funds. Our office used to have a travel agent service before GovTrip. Their efforts saved us more than everyone's time fighting with GovTrip. Allow us to use online travel sites or set up agency agreements with one or more travel sites. Allow the traveler to use best judgement to save travel funds, then manage the ...more »

GovTrip and Tax Exempt Certificates

I suggest that GovTrip be programed to notify the traveler when they make a hotel reservation in an area that does not have a local tax for hotel stays of government travelers. GovTrip could print out the tax exempt certificate. In the long run a program could be written to electronically transmit the certificate to the major hotel chains.

Stop Paying GovTrip $13.50 to Process Vouchers

Each time I travel on official business, I am charged (and later reimbursed by my agency) $13.50 to process the voucher. I am not sure where this money goes, but I assume from other posts here that it goes to a company called Northrup Grumman. This $13.50 is in addition to $4.35 that GovTrip charges to book a flight. Again, as many other posts have indicated, GovTrip does not seem to add any value, but rather it makes ...more »

Better GovTrip airfare cost comparisons.

Sumbit a work order to Northrup Grumman to program GovTrip to show comparative flights based on cost, regardless of contract carrier, limited capacity, or restrictions. 1) A huge amount a time queriing for separate results will be eliminated and 2) A decision using the fare that is "most advantageous to the government" can more easily be done.

Internet Travel Booking

Allow technical/scientific/professional staff and managers to book our own travel via the internet. This would save hundreds on every flight and rental car. It would also possibly allow for negotiating hotel room rates.

Government Owned Vehicles (GOV)

Federal agencies should allow use of GOV by federal employees on travel from other agencies to curtail cost of rental cars.

One option is to create an online database where a fed on travel can search for local branches of participating agencies to coordinate use of one of their vehicles.

All Government Forms Should be Electronic- Save Paper

Make all forms that are processed in the government electronic. Now that we have electronic records databases, we should use them to their full capacity. All forms from annual leave to govtrip to print requests to procurement requests should be able to be sent through the electronic process. We have really jumped into the new technology age- there are blogs, tweets, rss feeds and more. Now we need to take a step ...more »

Alter the GovTrip Process- Create a Travel Division

Replace Govtrip by creating a branch that specifically works on travel reservations. Currently, the government spends a ridiculous amount of money on travel. When we already have a tight travel budget, we need to make sure that we are getting the biggest bang for our buck. By creating a branch or division that works solely on travel arrangements, we will be providing jobs for more folks, while at the same time, saving ...more »

No GovTrip Hotel Reservations

Allow employees to make all hotel reservations themselves instead of going through GovTrip. This would save $4 per reservation. Plus it is just as easy to make the reservation yourself.

Saving Government Travel Dollars

I suggest that we stop booking airline flights through govtrip. The airline tickets cost significantly more than if we simply used our government credit cards and booked the flights directly. This would save a great deal of money. We are often charged as much as $1,000 for a airline ticket which if we booked directly would only cost $250.

Saved on Hotel Cost

For the past 12 months, I have been living in hotels in the Washington, DC metro area. Since this came out of my own pocket, I wanted nice facilities, but inexpensive. Ilooked to Hotwire.com and Priceline.com for rooms. At these sites I chose an area and the minimum quality raring (3 stars +). My cost for rooms was 1/4 the allowed per diem. With a rule change for travel service provider requirements to allow the ...more »
