Eliminate Washing Sidewalks and similar surfaces.

I have observed many government office building owners or landlords that use water to flush dirt off their sidewalks and driveways. I suggest sweeping up the dirt and placing it in an area that could use more soil. This could help protect our waterways and conserve clean water for its intended use. Go green.

How to save power and still auto-update Gov PCs

Require all government computers to automatically turn off after 1+ hours of not being used. If Windows Systems Management Server or WSUS needs to push updates out, have the remote server use Wake-On-LAN to fire up the computers for updates and then send the remote shutdown command. This solves the problem having to have the computers on for updates, and saves power when they are not being updated. This would not be ...more »

Digital Tech Data

My experience of approximately 23 years with the US NAVY and US Air force, Military/Civilian, Mechanic and Information Technology Specialist. I have seen tech data come in many forms and require many platforms to make it available to the end users. What a lot of people don’t see with some of the more elaborate programs written are issues the end users have getting their tech data to work. Many require difficult third ...more »

Eliminate Newspapers Delivery to Federal Offices

Each morning all throughout the federal government, offices are receiving thousands of copies of multiple newspapers and magazines. The vast majority of these subscriptions can and should be eliminated; only the agency public affairs office might possibly require these publications. These public affairs offices in many case already employ the best practice of compiling relevant news stories for that agency into an electronically ...more »

UNDOCUMENTED IMMIGRATION SOLUTION: SELF FUNDED DETERRENT PREVENTING THE HIRING OF UNDOCUMENTED WORKERS

I suggest a new type of proactive solution in the form of an enforcement system to deter the hiring of undocumented workers (illegal aliens, deportable/inadmissible aliens) through self funded economic incentives (monetary rewards) generated by fines. It will encourage the public to report violators and discourage employers from hiring undocumented workers. A percentage of the fines levied on employers of undocumented ...more »

10-15% of Power Wasted on Idle Equipment

How would you like to save billions of dollars with one flick of your finger? There are many pieces of government owned equipment that continue to draw power even though there is no use for them during off-duty hours. According to epa.gov (http://www.epa.gov/climateleaders/documents/events/11feb_plugloads.pdf) these “power vampires” account for 10-15% of commercial power use. Monitors for example, even while off, ...more »

Passports and Green Cards (Go electronic w/these security updates)

I realize the “make a suggestion” contest phase is over; but this idea is AMAZING. I am suggesting that in every passport issued by the United States, and our allies, be equipped with a locator (similar to the tracker embedded in pets by the human society) woven into the electronic verification information (like the CAC card chip); that will contain all of the individuals pertinent information to include the picture ...more »

Replace Cash

Printing money is expensive. We could save money with an automated system. I propose we show our patriotism by getting an American flag tattooed onto our hand – or some patriotic Americans can have it on their forehead. The flag will be specially coded with a small bar code under it that is unique for every citizen. A database will keep track of each person’s accounts. To enforce this system, cash will become void ...more »

Green Day Initiative

I suggest we have a "Green" day where we turn off any lighting or power sources not needed for the day such as, overhead lighting, unused printers, or anything that absorbs power. We could also do Team "Green" day where we go out and plant a tree, at the local park or location of choice. Additionally we can create information booths for anyone to ask questions about what we do, or how we are working as an agency to conserve ...more »

CONDITIONAL RESIDENT CARDS. A TRUE SOLUTION TO ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION.

There are not 100 illegal immigrants in the USA….. There are thousands. A CONDITIONAL RESIDENT CARD should be given to immigrants who DO NOT have a criminal record for murder, rape, DUI, or domestic violence. Those illegal immigrants who, at any point in their stay in the US, committed those crimes, should get DEPORTED to their country of origin right away. Illegal immigrants should pay a fine of $2,000 to $6,000 if ...more »
