Authenticate Social Security number database for legitimate activity

Cross check all Social Security numbers for IRS contribution activity against those in deceased or incarcerated database. This will show discrepancies in activity for numbers that should be idle. These could be blacklisted and researched for fraud, as the vast majority are sold via black markets targeted at illegal immigrants. A SS verification period along with I-9 verification before hiring associated with stiff penalties ...more »

Require IRS to debar tax cheats from federal awards

Require IRS to establish a debarment and suspension program and to debar and suspend all “tax delinquent” organizations as that term is defined in the tax code. Since IRS can only release the information about the tax delinquencies with permission of the organization, legislation should mandate that every organization that is seeking to do business with or get funding from the government to consent to releasing its ...more »

Dissolve IRS and Bring On Flat Tax

It is time for the US to evolve and get rid of the IRS. Euopean coutries have used flat taxes for decades and we still have a sytem that rewards having children, finding loopholes, and creating write-offs. The US should switch to a simple flat tax system so everyone regarless of single, married, have children, etc pay the exact same based on your annual income. The IRS has made taxes so complicated, it is extremely ...more »

Eliminate the Census Bureau

Every 10 years, I am absolutely amazed by how inefficient our process for conducting a census is. Whatever information the census collects could be collected more accurately, every year, and at much lower expense by just turning the process over to the IRS. The questions on the census could just be another form that is made a required part of the annual tax return. This should add very little additional cost to IRS’ ...more »

Converting Paper Tax Returns to Electronic Format

For individuals that use tax software to prepare their income tax return, but insist on printing it and filing a paper tax return, we should work with tax software companies on a way to print bar codes (either on one page or, preferably, at the bottom of each page) of the tax return that can be scanned at the IRS office and easily converted to an electronic format. This will help eliminate transcription errors at the ...more »

Inheritance More Than $10K Should be Taxed

Heirs should pay taxes on all inherited property and inherited money exceeding $10,000. Why should they get a tax-free, unearned windfall of up to $7 million? This will help reduce the public debt and one's sense of entitlement. It will also help lower the tax rate on HARD-EARNED income.

Allow people who owe back taxes to work it off

Many people who owe back taxes want to get back into compliance and pay what they owe, but are not able to and fear a system that penalizes them as opposed to welcoming them back into the fold and getting them back on the tax rolls. Due to the economy and current job situation, some of them can't right a check to Uncle Sam, but are more than willing to put their skills, experiences and abililities to work for Uncle Sam ...more »

Federal Sales Tax

Implement a federal sales tax and do away with the income tax. I think this has been proposed before and the study showed that we would actually get more money annually. Think about it. No federal tax taken out of an employee's check means more spending power. When they buy, the federal sales tax applies. Additionally, accountants still keep a job. Someone has to track all those purchases.

Reduce commuting distances and harmful car emissions while jump-starting the housing market

Re-assess the IRS's 50-mile minimum rule for deducting moving expenses on income taxes and also the 50-mile minimum rule for reimbursing military moving expenses (the government will not pay to move a member when their new duty station is less than 50 miles from their previous duty station). Gas prices are still very high, and traffic is getting increasingly worse all over the country, especially in areas like San Diego, ...more »
