Stop Double Pay to Microsoft

We buy computers from Dell. Each computer comes with a license from Microsoft. (Sticker with license key) We then buy an Enterprise license to install Windows (any version) on that computer. Dell sells computers without Windows. We can buy our computers without Microsoft licenses, and then install our Enterprise software. We never use the preinstalled version, and we never use the license key we pay for that comes with ...more »

open source software

US government should switch to open source software. They are free and literally free from hacker attacks and viruses. Just think about the amount of money each and every agency has to spend upgrade windows base office programs. Then multiply it by number of agencies. This is a total waste, because none of us use even 10% of the available features of fancy programs. Why do we spend millions, if not billions of dollars ...more »

Upgrade OS's to Windows 7, NOT Vista!

ATTN: ALL Gov't IT departments: When you upgrade OS's, do NOT upgrade to VISTA, but instead straight to Windows 7 from XP. Don't throw money [millions] down the drain and waste man-hours! (Like my ANG base just did)! Vista had too many issues and was not widely supported by software and hardware vendors. Vista is done. Windows 7 is a MUCH better operating system and is supported by the majority of vendors.

Multi-user PC’s

Multi-user PC’s allows users to operate multiple workstations and share hardware / software resources simultaneously, directly from one PC. With our government [civilian & military] spending a great deal of funding to provide enough PC's for everyone, this virtually adds 1 - 6 additional computers without investing in separate, new operating systems or PC's. The power in today's systems are hardly being tapped. Investment ...more »

Replace Outlook with Open Source Thunderbird

Replacing Outlook Express with Mozilla Thunderbird Government wide will save millions of dollars a year by not having to pay for a email client for employees. Thunderbird can be much safer because Outlook is basically tied into Windows in a way where if Windows has a exploit, it can potentially create an exploit for Outlook. Thunderbird can be just as safe but we would not have to waste thousands of dollars on buying ...more »

Stop Feeding the Microsoft Monster.

Stop feeding the Microsoft monster. Other Operating Systems and Office Software are more secure, more easily managed and way cheaper than Microsoft. They are also just as easy for the average user to use... STOP THE INSANITY.

Linux (Ubuntu, Redhat, etc), Apple OS, Open Office are all cheaper... by FAR.

LINUX vs $$+MICROSOFT+$$

REPLACE: The constantly increasing “EXPENSIVE” Microsoft operating systems and applications with the “FREE” Linux OpenSource operating systems and applications. COST SAVINGS: Government-wide, this could reduce the IT budgets by several billion dollars, which would make monies available to pay for hiring a team of government employees to maintain security and operability of Linux software packages. SECURITY: Linux is ...more »
