C.A.R.T. - internal flea online market for surplus supplies, equipment, furniture

I suggest you...require all federal orgs to add the C.A.R.T. (Capital Asset Reutilization Tool – the “C” means something else for us locally, but “Capital” would be a good substitute for mass application) to their organizations and intranets, with a requirement for all personnel to review C.A.R.T. prior to placing a purchase request. My org developed and has already installed this system. I am suggesting a wider use ...more »

e-NINJA: National (Efficiency) Incentives = Joint Agency Savings

We make thousands of decisions on a daily basis that can affect the "cost" of our services to the taxpayers. For example, our diet and exercise can affect health care premiums; our transportation choices can require additional infrastructure (roads, utilities, etc.); and our workplace habits can improve (or detract from) the value of our services. Most of these expenses are hidden from view, and are not accompanied ...more »

TECHNOLOGY, EFFICIENCY, ORGANIZATION AND SAVING LOTS OF PAPER

TECHNOLOGY, EFFICIENCY, ORGANIZATION, AND SAVING LOTS OF PAPER I suggest we utilize the "online server" technology available via applications like google, and provide relevant employees with smartphones (or better yet, iPad devices or Kindle like devices with google applications) in order to save paper, time, and organization for each staff area in the USDA. Having documents, calendars, saved and shared online, in a ...more »

Online Donations

A centralized online government donation page (i.e. Donate.gov). Potential donors could quickly and easily donate online via a credit card. This way donors are assured they are donating to a reputable location and meets the requests of hundreds of potential donors. This would open up new opportunities to accept funds, as well as free up man-power across multiple agencies that we already pay for. This could generate millions ...more »

There's an app for that!

The SSA should take advantage of emerging technologies like mobile apps and Web 2.0 technologies to provide services to the American public. Millions of boomers will be retiring in the coming years, and the SSA should use these technologies to communicate, educate, and provide interactive services to these retirees. Imagine having a YouTube channel with information on how to apply for SSA retirement benefits or disability ...more »

Offset the carbon footprint of government travel

Enable the use of a carbon footprint offset for federal government travel through the use of a carbon calculator on each agency's travel booking Web site. Federal employees would be able to offset the footprint created by their travel to meetings or conferences by purchasing credits from approved projects around the country. These projects are managed by a reputable organization that specializes in offering carbon ...more »

Place large screens around conference so everyone can see training presentations.

At large conferences, attendees are often too far away from the speaker and one presentation screen to be able to view the training presentation easily. Have an additional 2-3 large screens placed around the conference area which displays the presentor's information in clear view. When attendees cannot see the presentation, especially if this is a training conference, they are given the information in print form and often ...more »

One Source for Information Management & Productivity Tools; with Specialists to Tailor to Our Needs

A healthy bit of time is spent gaining and preserving access to, and navigating the various, often incompatible info management systems in place. Many of these systems offer productivity tools as a blank slate or template, rather than pre-tailored to specific uses. We have redundancies in iPortal, SharePoint, EIS, CPS, Doc Man, PMC, etc... as well as VPN, Citrix, Online Mail, One Note, etc..., as well as different proprietary ...more »

Electronic Timekeeping

Require all federal agencies to utiliize an online time entry process where employees enter their time online from the office or from home if teleworking. Since PC's take time to boot up, employees could sign in on a serial sign in log indicating their arrival time and then sign on once the system is up. The system would reduce the amount of errors that occur each pay period and the amount of time the timekeeper and ...more »

ONLINE READING

I suggest you stop issuing the vast array of government magazines and other literature in hard copy; and instead, issue them online. This will immediately save postage and the immense costs associated with printing and binding and other production expenses. Currently, every military service partakes in this primitive method of communication. I can only guess at the number of other government agencies that do the same. ...more »

Online Social Security Statements/Status

Allow beneficiaries of Social Security to access limited payment status information online. Functioning similarly to an online bank account, this feature would prevent many calls to the 1-800 number and many office visits for questions regarding payment status and overpayments. Not much would need to be available to prevent a significant portion of calls and visits. (Payment status, Overpayment balance, Recent checks, ...more »
