I suggest you streamline the overpayment adjudication process. It would be more efficient to automatically address waiver in the adjudication of a claimant's challenge to an overpayment. We do not have the basic mechanisms that the collection agencies have in recovering debts. We'd prefer to recover overpayments at x amount of dollars per month, sometimes as little as 10.00 per month, AS REQUIRED by procedure, than offer a settlement, even if the overpayment is for 10000.00 or 20000.00 dollars. I suggest you actively target and reduce annual agency overpayments. Some agencies/programs have notoriously high overpayment rates. These agencies/programs should be the focus of immediate oversight to systematically reduce annual overpayments, which at the moment, account for almost a hundred billion dollars of losses/waste.
I suggest the Social Security Administration give overpaid individuals the ability to remit overpaid funds online. The time the Agency currently spends processing remittances in the field offices would be reduced, allowing employees to focus on other workloads.
