Reduce Payroll Costs

I suggest each individual submitting an idea which obviously increases costs to the government be counseled by a superior who also evaluates fitness for the job. It is clear many ideas are submitted by individuals with no concept of the term "SAVE MONEY".and simply cannot follow instructions. Give me cellular modems, give me a car, give me benefits. Give ME a break! Get rid of these selfish "Gimme Gimme" employees ...more »

Federal Student Loans and Payroll

Offer employees an option to have their Federal Student loan payments directly deducted from payroll IF the loan is consolidated. By doing this, employees should receive a reduced interest rate and the Department of Education is guaranteeing minimally missed payments from federal employees. Employees should also be able to go online and direct increased amounts of paychecks towards student loan debt—For example, a year-end ...more »

Time and Attendance Reporting

I think more DHS components should use the WebTA time and attendance system. I worked for DHS S&T for 2 years and the web based time and attendance system was great. You could certify your time from anywhere as long as you had access to the internet. I now work for DHS CBP and employees have to fill out excel spreadsheets and hand deliver the forms for someone to manually type into an antiquated mainframe system. Instead ...more »

Most employees use a third application (usually an Excel spreadsheet) to track their own payroll charges. Therefore, most employees are using one program to budget their time, a second program to track their time, and a third program to charge their time. This is an extremely ...more »

Paperless Time Keeping and Reporting

All of the employee time sheets in our office are currently completed on paper and manually entered by one person into the payroll system. Thousands of paper copies have been made and filed. A paperless time keeping and reporting system would reduce material costs, free up storage space, and increase the efficiency of the process.

Change to Bi-Monthly Payroll

Transition to bi-monthly payroll (twice per month) instead of bi-weekly. Government accounting systems generate billions of transactions each month matching monthly accounting data to the bi-weekly payroll periods. This change would greatly simplify accounting throughout the FY and especially at FY-end.
