Saving Travel Dollars

I suggest you ask Federal employees/travel authorities to make riding the train a first consideration when traveling between Hampton Roads and DC. It is much less expensive than mileage and parking for a POV or for the negotiated commercial air rate. This should also be considered for travel between DC and NY.

Legislative Branch

Public Transportation

Public Transportation should be mandated for commutes above 25 miles one way.

Public Transportation on trains should be required for Airport Travel - connections in So. CA don't even connect to the airport! you have to get off the train and then wait for a bus! - The trains must connect at the airport with shuttles to each area. Less pollution, less hassle!

Require accessibility to public transportation for meetings

Federal agencies routinely hold national or regional meetings, trainings, and other conferences with attendance from employees nationwide. All of these attendees have unavoidable travel costs. However, many car rental and cab costs could be avoided (and the environment better protected) if these gatherings were required, whenever possible, to be held at sites that were easily accessible to public transportation.
