Government Workers Should Share in the Suffering

The Federal Government continues to grow, even while the bad economy causes layoffs, furloughs, foreclosures, etc. for many individuals, the private sector, and state governments. Social Security and SSI overpayment recovery

We do not have the basic mechanisms that the collection agencies have in recovering debts. We'd prefer to recover overpayments at x amount of dollars per month, sometimes as little as 10.00 per month, AS REQUIRED by procedure, than offer a settlement, even if the overpayment is for 10000.00 or 20000.00 dollars. Establish a federal fund to pay for school uniforms, making the money available to students of any public school with a policy that students wear uniforms. Enough money for five unitorms per student, earmarked, so the money can't be used for anything else. Establish government online auction site (or use eBay) to recover value from assets purchased but unused. Simply put, the government throws many $B in equipment that is lightly used (if at all), sits in an organization, is surplused/disposed, to be discovered by opportunists to resell for a tidy profit.
