Connect the federal dots and cut the fat

The OMB Director directs agencies to “cut 5 percent of their budget by reducing or terminating poor performing or low priority programs…” Haven’t we tried this before? In fact, we make budget cuts in programs within agencies as a regular budget exercise. Above the line, below the line. I did a quick look on USA.gov. There are approx. 450 federal agencies, boards, commissions, committees, and that includes 15 departments, ...more »

GSA has about 212,000 vehicles in its fleet divided among 75 federal agencies. Most of these vehicles are assigned to individuals ie. one vehicle one man. Last year alone, GSA spent $287 Million to buy 17, 205 new vehicles to its fleet bringing the new number to about 220, 205 vehicles. Each vehicle than requires insurance, gas, toll expenses, parking fees in some instances, violations etc etc. Lest not forget most of ...more »

Reduce Paper Usage, Save $1B+

Having worked with multi-agencies over the last 3 yrs, I came to realize that US Govt uses more paper than anyone else in the nation. We use paper, ink, printers, and faxes which probably amount to quarter billion dollars alone annually, when taken in amount the cost of items, human hours put in to turn the paper in electronic data, (and when not needed anymore), to file, to recycle/shred, and garbage disposal etc it ...more »

UNDOCUMENTED IMMIGRATION SOLUTION: SELF FUNDED DETERRENT PREVENTING THE HIRING OF UNDOCUMENTED WORKERS

I suggest a new type of proactive solution in the form of an enforcement system to deter the hiring of undocumented workers (illegal aliens, deportable/inadmissible aliens) through self funded economic incentives (monetary rewards) generated by fines. It will encourage the public to report violators and discourage employers from hiring undocumented workers. A percentage of the fines levied on employers of undocumented ...more »

FIX THE SYSTEM - THERE IS NO OTHER CHOICE!

We are trying to save a few drops at the faucet when there are massive leaks (waste, mismanagement, incompetence, abuse) and theft (fraud) at the pumps and pipes. When revenue is drying up, we need to be thinking of a TRILLION not a measley million. I recommended the following actions last year, please be serious this time. - Install a strong and effective internal control system. Without it, any business will fail, ...more »

Default Typeset

Change all default typeset to Century Gothic, which saves 30% more ink than Arial. This would result in millions of dollars in savings for the government, with a very simple change.

C.A.R.T. - internal flea online market for surplus supplies, equipment, furniture

I suggest you...require all federal orgs to add the C.A.R.T. (Capital Asset Reutilization Tool – the “C” means something else for us locally, but “Capital” would be a good substitute for mass application) to their organizations and intranets, with a requirement for all personnel to review C.A.R.T. prior to placing a purchase request. My org developed and has already installed this system. I am suggesting a wider use ...more »

NMCI, Increase speed of intranet

NMCI server system needs to be sped up drastically, whether that equates to additional servers, larger servers, faster servers or all of the above. They routinely slow to a virtual crawl, with some functions (accessing the global to find an email address) that have taken as much as 5 minutes and 47 seconds to complete, many Global accesses taking at least 38 seconds to complete. Many office actions take 13 seconds to ...more »

Put unused money back to budget

I suggest that every financial year Federal Agencies will return unused funds back to the budget instead of using them all just because they were allocated for the Agency needs. This will prevent waste and ensure more efficient use of recourses. In addition those individuals should be monetarily awarded for the saving of budget funds thus creating incensitives to save.
