Replace sick leave with use-or-lose leave

Federal employees should be allowed to use their use-or-ose annual leave to replace the sick leave that they have used. The government would realize immediate savings as the employees would remain on the job rather than "burning" their use-or-lose leave.

Nurse Practitioner on Site to see Sick Employees

At large Federal Buildings, offer a Nurse Practitioner to be available to employees who get sick on job. Often employees must take off work to go see a doctor, when seeing a nurse on-site might greatly eliminate need to leave workplace where they could just get a prescription from the nurse & fill it on their lunch hour.

Compensatory time off

Many of us work extra hours, staying late and coming in early to meet deadlines but still wind up having to use sick time or leave for doctors' appointments and children's emergencies. A reasonable policy would be to record the extra hours and allow them to be used before the end of the next pay period.

 

This is not a new idea, but it is a humane one.

Junk the Junk Food!

Upgrade government cafeteria food choices to HEALTHY. Stop selling junk food, sodas, high fat and high cholesterol foods in government cafeterias and vending machines. This will improve health, reduce sickness, reduce healthcare costs, and reduce health insurance premiums.

Combine Sick Leave and Vacation

Combine sick leave and vacation leave into one pool. Add them together and then take a percentage (say 85%) and give that to employees and just call it leave. So many waste time and money because they have sick leave to burn. If leave existed and was all like vacation, we wouldn't have the administrative headaches and the use of "sick time" when it wasn't really needed.
