Use Technology

Technology exists to telework, videoconference, sharepoint and do everything our administrative jobs require from a remote site. We don't need to pay high cost of living for people to live/work in the metro area anymore - let us live where we want and take a paycut to work from remote sites outside the DC area.

Consolidate basic non-sensitive web hosting functions

I think Federal agencies should consolidate hosting and data storage for non-sensitive websites and some internal systems. Each year Federal agencies spend millions of dollars maintaining systems to accomplish redundant tasks. Most agencies have many of the same types of content such as: --Public Affairs/Press releases/Bios --Grant–making functions --Policy functions --Regulatory guidance/enforcement --Technical Assistance ...more »

Empower Employees with Skype

This capability would allow employees to reduce travel funds by holding face-to-face meetings on Skype. A live video will allow a personal connection, without the cost of traveling long distances for relatively short meetings. It is a no-cost option within the United States and would monopolize on technology already available to the masses. Currently, the federal government does not have an agreement with Skype, as it ...more »

Revitalize NASA's Human Space Exploration Mission

Re-establish a viable Space Exploration Mission for NASA that involves humans instead of robots. Some how, somewhere, our leadership has forgotten (or is too young) to remember the excitement of the Apollo Program and the vision and leadership it provided young people. We need to look back at the broad technological and inspirational benefits of the NASA Apollo Program and revitalize our efforts to explore Space. ...more »

cancel $32B/yr NASA program

NASA should be disbanded. Inherently government programs (test facilities, launch facilities) shall go to the AirForce. The rest of the programs (research facilities and DeepSpaceNetwork) and funding shall go to the universities. The bureaucracy around the NASA empire has shifted to a nationalistic secrecy that mostly supports the military not the original and current charters of improving science and technology education ...more »

Technology changes that can save money

My idea is actually multiple tech ideas that combined can save the state department allot of money. First idea is simple, expand Voice over IP in order to allow free or low cost phone calls from posts overseas to the U.S. or posts to posts and beyond. VoIP should act as a portal for most, if not all, local and long distance calling when practical. Second idea, My idea is to utilize (with some minor modifications and ...more »

Departmental/Division Technical Star Awards

Give awards to departments or bureaus with technical knowledge cohesiveness. Many times there are applications that are issued to the govt and its department that could help make work more efficient. However, the fear of new applications or refusal to learn them out of personal reasons, slows a department down. In today's global market and as technology gets better and stronger, we can not afford to not have personnel ...more »

Printer Settings

I have a very simple idea. All printers should be set to default print at 300 dpi (or even draft quality). This would save a huge amount of money spent on toner.
