Welfare & Work

Everyone who receives a welfare check and they are able to work, should contribute in someway. A job should be given to those who are able to work, but chose not to. I know it may be hard to develop jobs that they could do, but it will be much harder financially for the Country if we keep paying out $$ without any return on investment

Incentivize DoD to Discontinue Year End Fiscal Spending Sprees (via MWR Percentage Return)

Issue: DoD year end fiscal spending in order to secure the same size budget for subsequent years is wasteful, but institutionally (if not legally) encouraged through a significant portion of the DoD. Solution: Deal with the issue at the Congressional level and force a revamp of the laws and regulations which govern this. Being a simple guy, here is a simple solution: Reward excellence and proper stewardship! Structure ...more »

Drug Tests for WIC Users

Require users of WIC and other gov’t programs to submit to random drug screenings. Most tax payers must pass a drug screening to stay employed, so I feel that if someone is going to use these benefits paid for by tax payers, we need to make sure that the programs aren’t being exploited by drug users.

Work Camps

Unemployment in this country is at emergency levels. Welfare recipients need not just be given food, clothing and housing, but they need to learn some valuable life skills. Since this is an emergency, I suggest that FEMA set up camps (similar to those set up for hurricanes and natural disasters) that are designed to put the welfare recipients to work. Anyone who wants to receive free government benefits is welcome ...more »

Start a WELFARE TV Channel/Program

Start a WELFARE TV Channel that can describe the welfare programs and information, how to complete and submit the benefits applications online (no paper printing) and describe the heavy penalty for misusing the system (fraud). We/our government spent lot of money to make the systems electronic (No paper work). But what is happening now – People go online, complete the application and most of them don’t submit – they ...more »

Open Communication

I suggest that we allow government agencies to share certain information. Just like hospitals will have online records that will enable them to share information, the government should be able to do the same. If the Social Security Administration has a fraud case, it would make sense that other departments would know to be on the lookout. If someone passes away and the VA sees a death certificate, it would make sense ...more »

Less welfare for mothers who cannot afford children/More incentives for working mothers

Sadly, many women who have children in the U.S. are unable to properly care for them due to unemployment or insufficient income. They live off of welfare and other government handouts while families who are working are left having to leave their 1-month old child in day care and have to incur the expenses and emotional burden of having someone else watch them. This leads to fewer capable families having children for fear ...more »

Require recipients of ANY government assistance and/or subsidy program to give back to their community

Require recipients of ANY government assistance and/or subsidy program to give back to their community by performing community support hours to qualify for continued benefits. This idea suggests replacing "free government assistance" with "compensatory government assistance" and would apply to unemployment, welfare, food stamps, housing assistance, etc. For example, an individual could pay back 1 hour of community support ...more »

Drug Screening for Welfare

I suggest Welfare Recipients should have to take a drug/alcohol test before qualifying and periodically to maintain welfare benefits. Most of our federal and private employees a have to take a drug test to work which our pay checks help fund the welfare system so it is only fair that they should have to follow the same standards. This would reduce welfare costs and hopefully overall health by forcing the abusers to ...more »
