Executive Office of the President

Executive Order to mandate/expand Telework

Generate an Executive order mandating all Federal Agencies to establish Telework policies guaranteeing minimum 2 days a week to all qualified employees. This will reduce traffic, pollution, infrastructure, and agency energy overhead costs.

During snow/weather emergencies, mandatory Telework should be implemented.

GSA Fleet Sharing and Accountability Could Save $6Billion and Environment

GSA has about 212,000 vehicles in its fleet divided among 75 federal agencies. Most of these vehicles are assigned to individuals ie. one vehicle one man. Last year alone, GSA spent $287 Million to buy 17, 205 new vehicles to its fleet bringing the new number to about 220, 205 vehicles. Each vehicle than requires insurance, gas, toll expenses, parking fees in some instances, violations etc etc. Lest not forget most of ...more »

UNDOCUMENTED IMMIGRATION SOLUTION: SELF FUNDED DETERRENT PREVENTING THE HIRING OF UNDOCUMENTED WORKERS

I suggest a new type of proactive solution in the form of an enforcement system to deter the hiring of undocumented workers (illegal aliens, deportable/inadmissible aliens) through self funded economic incentives (monetary rewards) generated by fines. It will encourage the public to report violators and discourage employers from hiring undocumented workers. A percentage of the fines levied on employers of undocumented ...more »

Passports and Green Cards (Go electronic w/these security updates)

I realize the “make a suggestion” contest phase is over; but this idea is AMAZING. I am suggesting that in every passport issued by the United States, and our allies, be equipped with a locator (similar to the tracker embedded in pets by the human society) woven into the electronic verification information (like the CAC card chip); that will contain all of the individuals pertinent information to include the picture ...more »

More time to SAVE 2011

Improve dissemination throughout government for 2011. This year I received one day notice. I got the message and a reminder that is due tomorrow this morning. Our thoughts may be better and our input may seem valued.

Reduce Telecommunications Costs at the same time facilitating the implementation of telework

Reduce telecommunications cost by eliminating land lines for all employees who have Blackberry or other telecommunications devices. This could also help facilitate a more seemless implementation of telework in that employees would have only one phone number, not one number for the office and a separate one for telework days.

GET THE ACTUAL VOTES AND TALLY THE TOTAL OF ALL LIKE IDEAS.

Combine all the similar topics into one to tally actually votes. Who has the time to read through 16k plus ideas? That sounds like a waste of Government time and money. For instance there are nearly 10,000 telework, tele-commute, telecommute, work from home, etc. these should all be tallied and then count the total votes. Do I have to take the time to read through all of these? The point was made with one; although ...more »

Save by limiting TOS and hiring most qualified candidates

When hiring/filling vacant positions and a current agency employee is selected, allow that employee to stay at their current duty station or any other federal/department office or service center with sufficient connectivity (and VTC equipment if appropriate). This would not only save money from TOS and TDY travel, but this would provide continued opportunities for citizens living and contributing to the communitiies and ...more »

Encourage Telework Across Enterprise

Embrace telework for at least one day per pay period. With a laptop and Blackberry, I can be more productive and communicate well to my staff on these telework days. In the policy, indicate this is a privilege not a right and will be taken away on the first instance of abuse. On telework days, I leave my car at home, work more productively and longer hours, and am happier.

Create a Mobile Work Day Status

On days when the Federal government would now be "shut down" due to weather, allow OPM to declare a mobile work day where employees have the option of taking unscheduled leave or teleworking. The government should never again shut down for snow or other weather events and employees who are eligible and equipped to telework should be expected to work on such days.

Reducing Office Footprints Through Hoteling

Although agencies have moved towards allowing more employees to telework, true savings will only be realized if the agencies then reduce their footprint of leased space. The best was to do this is to move to a "hoteling" environment. When combined with the elimination of land lines in favor of a suite of wireless communication technologies, agencies could either reduce their operating costs or redeploy those assets to ...more »
