FUND WATERSENSE! You know the VALUE OF CLEAN WATER, but do you really know its TRUE COST?

Similar to Energy Star, WaterSense is a voluntary partnership program developed by EPA that seeks to promote water efficiency and conservation through increasing the market for water-efficient products with demonstrated exceptional performance, while also encouraging innovative marketing low water-use practices. Also like Energy Star, WaterSense allows products that are tested and proven to meet EPA specifications to... more »

Extended unemployment benefits based on household income

Make extended unemployment benefits be based on household income. There are people out there that receive unemployment benefits where his/her spouse still works and makes enough to support the household. The first six months are an earned benefit that should be paid, but after that there needs to be a need based on income.

Volunteer = Work Credit

Volunteer = Work

Community involvement is needed to help improve the conditions in the United States. Developing an initiative to allow employees who chose to volunteer to receive work credit would increase the number of volunteer participants. The work credit would be minimum in regards to the overall benefit of the community.

TERMINATE OFFICE MACHINE LEASES

CANCEL DEFENSE AUTOMATED PRINTING SERVICE (DAPS) COPIER AND PRINTER LEASED MAINTENANCE AGREEMENTS: I suggest cancellation of maintenance agreements for common office equipment such as printers, copiers, etc., (allowing, for rare mission essential functions such as safety and customer volume with appropriate high level agency authority). A review at one federal location determined it would be cheaper for personnel to... more »

Physician Advocate

Physician benefits such as student loan repayment, CME allowance, and pay for performance are offered and paid in a discriminatory manner at VA. Many providers have experienced denial and/or delayed payments/refunds. This results in poor physician retention & waste of physician time on endless inquiries. The current system of reporting to supervisors, HR and EEO is useless & physicians are not part of the union. Suggest... more »

Federal Enforcement Agency

What: Create an enforcement department that is able to alleviate burdens of other departments from individuals who do not abide by the laws of federally funded departments. This enforcement will deal with “soft” crimes. “Hard” crimes will be assigned to designated agencies. Why: Millions of dollars and an abundant amount of time are being wasted. Departments are focuses good portions of their time dealing with customers... more »

Better Investments in Our Future Leaders

I believe the Summer Intern and Stay in School programs at the Department of State (and similar programs at other agencies) are wonderful opportunities for us to make very sound investments in the future leaders of our country. I've seen some office make great use of these programs and allow the students to gain every advantage possible from the opportunity. However, more often than not, I've seen the opposite. The... more »

Transportation Benefit Inefficiency Solved. Best Idea: Saves $42 Million. Easy and Uncontroversial.

The transportation subsidy program (Smartrip) ought to automatically factor in the federal holidays every month and take away the daily allowance for that holiday. Every year there are 10 federal holidays. If 600,000 employees spend $7 a day commuting, this simple automated computer fix will save the federal government $42 Million (600,000 x 5 x 10). This would be easy to do, and it is not controversial because almost... more »

Acronyms Cost $90 Million per Year

Idea: All Government Agencies should adopt the National Incident Management System (NIMS) method of addressing communications. “Common Terminology” The first time an acronym is introduced into a document the author should always write a long name in full, regardless of how well known it is. Example: National Incident Management System (NIMS) Benefit: Speeds up work flow. Increases productivity, Decreases mistakes.... more »

Adding responsible information to every document (Agency/Branch/Component/Date)

Idea: Add responsible Agency/Branch/Component/Date information to every form, document, manual, publication, or web page. With this ANY staff member can easily identify the agency to contact when changes are needed in. Example (FEMA/VA-NPSC/NCT/07-19-2010) Facts: Thousands of man hours are being wasted every year when publications need to be changed or updated and author is not readily identifiable. Too often, if... more »

Develop a web-based catalog of all NASA owned support equipment that can be reused for multiple projects.

After serving as an NASA Engineer on a couple satellite missions, I noticed that each mission spends money on new support equipment like dollys, lift slings, and fixturing to help build and test the spacecraft. While each satellite design is usually unique and requires some new equipment. There are stages in the process of satellite construction where existing equipment can be modified for much cheaper than purchasing... more »

Cellular phone rate for government and employees.

Everybody have a cellular phone. Negotiating a service contract based on $/minutes & volume package. The federal government have the power of negotiating, the employees are a large volume (attractive for vendors) and the companies are looking for big bussiness. It is a win-win deal. In addition to lower rate plans, most companies have a cell-cell free in the network, allowing travelers to use their working cellular phone... more »

Teleworking Benefits to Reduce Transit Costs

Institute two Teleworking benefits, one for the employee (to subsidize cost of internet & electricity) and another for the agency (to incentivize savings in electricty, transit benefits, etc). Even a small token benefit would encourage and support more frequent teleworking, saving the Government millions in transit benefits and lost time in the event of a weather emergency.
