Save Fuel/Reduce Federal Expense/Improve Census!

Remove address and location description restrictions from US Code Title 13, so the information can be shared over the Internet/WAN. Currently, the Census Bureau is prohibited from releasing address and location information from it's Master Address Files; which means costly field visits before each Census to bring the Master Address File up-to-date (they hire hundreds of thousands of listers, and pay mileage to them to... more »

Eliminate the Census Bureau

Every 10 years, I am absolutely amazed by how inefficient our process for conducting a census is. Whatever information the census collects could be collected more accurately, every year, and at much lower expense by just turning the process over to the IRS. The questions on the census could just be another form that is made a required part of the annual tax return. This should add very little additional cost to IRS’... more »

Photo-ID & Uniform to Reduce Identity Fraud for Census Workers

Because of increasing identity fraud, we should do whatever we can to ease residents concern by providing staff with photo-ID. It will be great if we provide all the workers with Census identiable wear especially the Enumerators and Listers. If cloth shirts/T-shirts are too costly and have size problem, we can go with size-independent items like caps, aprons or front-and-back "bibs" with hugh Census logo to wear on top... more »

Establishing the Decennial Census Pride

Basic Census promotional materials (with the Census logo) should be used in all the Local Census Offices from the beginning e.g. banners, pens, pencils, stickers, notepads, post-it, mouse pads,... These items can also be given to partners as giveaways for their community events. This will bypass the partners needing to apply for PSP to get giveaways, thus saving time and effort to fill out and process the applications.... more »

Early In-Language Census Advertisement

Most of the advertisements of the Census 2010 were held back and were only released after Jan 2010 but the kick-off outreach was done at least one year out. I suggest that takng 10-20% of the late advertisement and start placing 1 advertisment per 1 or 2 months when the outreach kicks-off. This is particularly important to the non-English speaking communities and will raise the acceptance for public education on Census.... more »

Timely Census In-language Materials Needed

The In-language printed promotional/educational materials of the Census 2020 should be ready at the same time as the main stream materials in English. There is no second class residents and the non-English people should receive the message at the same time, and not in a second round. Most of the in-language materials in 2010 were produced too late and they ended up in the dumpsters becuase the Operation had gone to another... more »

Streamline Census Cross-functional Pocessing

There is definitely a need for an overseers to weave all aspects of the Census Planning, Operations and Outreach together. This will eliminate duplication of effort and will prevent embarrassment to the Bureau. Currently, one operation just carries a single operation one step at a time. Thus a Partner or resident might be contacted multiple times from Census even before the added confusion caused by the Quality Assurance... more »

Census Reminders vs House Visits, and Online Completion of Census Forms

How about sending a mailed reminder or two to individuals not responding to the Census right away. I had at least 10 notices left on my door over a two week period from personal visits. A friendly reminder, vs people showing up on my doorstep, would have been much more helpful. I was home once when someone came to my house, but had just got out of the shower and was not about to answer the door. The Census worker sat... more »

Saving money in Census Operations

Eliminate Regional and Local Census offices and replace with internet kiosks at educational facilities and volunteer organizations similar to voting booths with a holiday or time off devoted to designated census day. In addition, tax incentive rewards and educational benefits to be given by government for full reporting of family data. Remote areas to be served in future by inexpensive wi-fi satellite reporting with... more »

Accurate Census without the cost

I suggest that during a census that a more efficient system is used that requires each home unit to report, but not using paper and postage. In each community there could be several central locations with computers where you register your household and do the survey. This would be accurate and quick and inexpensive. If after this reporting period individual homes are still missing then there could be a door to door... more »

Census Bureau Intergration with IRS saves BILLIONS

I think that it would be in the best interest of the United State and its taxpaying republic that we combine the Census Bureau with the IRS. This migration/integration would allow for the same collection of data that is required by law in Title 13 of the US Code. The Census is currently required to take a survey of the population every 10 yrs and for manufacturing every 2 yrs not to mention agriculture. The Bureau... more »
