Freedom to Fly AND Make Some Money for Myself and Government

Create incentive to travel on the restricted air-fare instead of government air-fare. Allow member to keep % of difference between the two fares upon completion of travel. Typical Governement fare is 2-3 times anything I can easily find on Kayak or Expedia. I would gladly travel this way if I could keep % of savings! We don't switch our tickets that often!

Reduce The Number of Helicopter (Marine One) Decoys

I propose that helicopter flights between the White House and Andrews Naval Air Facility on Marine One (and Marine Two), which transport the President and Vice-President, fly in fewer numbered groups. Currently, an average of three helicopters appear to be used (with two serving as decoys). My idea is to limit the number of decoys to one on routine trips. Understanding the nature and purpose of decoy flights, I still... more »

Travel Requirements-US Carrier Restriction

The Fly America Act needs an overhaul. The cost of traveling to Africa and Asia on an American carrier far exceeds the benefit the act was meant to provide to the US air industry. Even purchasing codeshare flights from a US carrier sometimes ends up costing three to four times the cost of the airline ticket if purchased directly from the international carrier. As a taxpayer, I rather $800 goes to Korean Air than $3000... more »

Federal Travel System Based on Priceline Model

New Government-Wide Travel System Based on "Priceline" model. The Federal travel system is an archane system even in newest form in my agency and in many other federal agencies regardless of platform. In my agencies platform, FedTraveler, we pay large fees that seem to reward the contractor well above what myself and other employees consider fair. For example the charge in FedTraveler for processing a l"local voucher"... more »

Excessive Fees and Charges through the Travel System

Excessive processing fees are needlessly charged and many times inflated prices for flights are billed to the federal government through the travel system. The government is charged for every voucher processed through the system. The simplest voucher that pays an employee a single per diem without hotel charges, costs the government over $13; and the travel agency did not do anything except their computer system was... more »

Official Travel

After a recent stint at one of the FLETC, it became blatantly obvious exactly how much in government funds is wasted via the government's contracts with travel agencies such as Sato/GetThere. An attempt to book a flight from New York to Charleston, which included a layover in Georgia, netted the contracted travel agency $1299+ taxes/fees, while a direct flight could have been booked through the airline's website at $180+... more »

Use commercial search engines like Expedia for Government travel.

Use internet search engines like Expedia for Government travel. We need to renegotiate a better deal for flights and hotels that are Government contracted, that would include the use of common search engines for travel. I have found flights to be considerably less expensive when I have compared our contracted flights to that found in search engines like Kayak, Orbitz, etc… At the very least, allow for Government travelers... more »

GOV TRIP - Utilize Commercial Online Travel Booking - NOT GOVTRIP - AND GET COMMERCIAL FARES !

By using an online commercial travel booking service such as Travelocity or Orbitz we could save millions - literally. By using GovTrip we are wasting millions of dollars by 1. untold employee hours (and likely the most money) wasted due to poor website application functionality, 2. not being able to book the least expensive options, 3. the cost of the application itself, 4. difficulty in processing travel vouchers after... more »
