GOV TRIP

I suggest you get rid of GovTrip. My last plane ticket was over $1,500. I good have booked the same plane ticket through the same carrier for $646.00.

There is something wrong with GovTrip with this happening. Plus GovTrip charges you $15 evertime you have to change something or ask a question. The travel company is no help at all.

Let's Try Four Days a Week

Allow federal work places to go to 4 days a week. You would save millions of dollars just running from Monday to Thursday. This would also allow rest for those who have children and need that one day that children are at school/ It also reduces costs of running facilites. If someone is needing to work, let them telework that day.

Optional Early Out Retirement

Give the Option of Early Retirement since most agencies are Top-Heavy (experienced employees maxed out at the top of their pay level). This allows new hires to be made and reduces the overall payroll cost of the US Government. Savings might well be in the billions!

TeleWork - Save money and Increase Efficiency

Most employees work at the office during normal buisness hours, yet many of us do jobs that can be done at home as well, or more efficiently. Some employees at my office already go home to work on focused writing - they have fewer interuptions and find that they actually get MORE work done at home. Using the phone, instant messaging and our increasing web-based communication systems, it doesn't matter where our desk is ...more »

Hold workers accountable and clean out deadwood

I suggest we hold workers accountable. There are far too many workers that do not work, or work very little. Salary and benefits are a huge cost and the public is always complaining about lazy government workers. It is time to change that reality. Reward those of that truly work hard and get rid of those that don't. Please clean house of all the deadwood across all agencies and departments.

Stop $10,000 Awards

Stop giving out $10,000 awards to upper management. This money could be used to help in purchasing office supplies - thus eliminating out-of-pocket expense buying supplies at office supply stores (e.g., Office Max, Office Depot, Staples, etc.).

ONE password ONE login

I have different passwords to log on to my computer, into my email, into several different agency databases, into Workplan, into Avue (the hiring program), and into the WFDSS - the wildland decision support system. It is impossible to keep track of all these passwords and required changes. It wastes time. Instead, I would like to be able to logon to my computer with one password and have access to all the programs/databases ...more »

Eliminate GovTrip

I suggest that GovTrip be eliminated. Do travel authorizations and travel plans in-house. This would save $13.50 per voucher processed. it would also save time because we spend time trying to firm up reservations through GovTrip that we end up having to do on our own outside of GovTrip.

Eliminate 80% of contracting and put our people back to work.

If NBC Dateline was to do one of their "Fleecing of America" shows on governemt contracting (at least here in the Forest Service) and truly show how much wasted tax dollars are being spent on contracting vs. keeping our own people working, they would win a Pulitzer.

Stop the use-it/lose-it concept.

Every year we learn that we have more funds then first anticipated. However, NEPA, contracts and agreements take time and usually cannot be done in time to spend the extra money. This results in a use-it/lose-it attitude which leads to wasteful purchases and spending. Set the budget, and then if there are more funds available, allow for carryover so that they could be used for the program intended at a future date, ...more »

GOV TRIP - Utilize Commercial Online Travel Booking - NOT GOVTRIP - AND GET COMMERCIAL FARES !

By using an online commercial travel booking service such as Travelocity or Orbitz we could save millions - literally. By using GovTrip we are wasting millions of dollars by 1. untold employee hours (and likely the most money) wasted due to poor website application functionality, 2. not being able to book the least expensive options, 3. the cost of the application itself, 4. difficulty in processing travel vouchers after ...more »

Allow Supervisors to order office supplies from cheapest source

I work for USDA-NRCS and it would be great if our District Conservationists (the county field office boss) had the authority to make purchases for office supplies without having to go through the rigamarole of filling out forms and getting every little thing approved by the state office. Having a discretionary credit card to use for up to $10,000 per year in office supplies would go a long way towards saving money (simply ...more »
