A software closed loop user feedback process.

Make a policy or law requiring a closed loop user feedback process for new, current and future Government Information Systems (software). This would provide Lean Six Sigma quantifiable data for senior leader decision makers. Not what the vendors, contractors think. As software products are developed this will ensure the feedback is collected by a closed loop system to measure the usage, effectiveness and correct issues ...more »

Telecommuting

Let workers who are able, telecommute a few times a week. This would save energy (energy used by the employee in the building, gas would be saved from driving too). Work should be measured in quality and quantity (productivity), not by how well an employee is dressed when they come to work and socializes.

Stop Double Pay to Microsoft

We buy computers from Dell. Each computer comes with a license from Microsoft. (Sticker with license key) We then buy an Enterprise license to install Windows (any version) on that computer. Dell sells computers without Windows. We can buy our computers without Microsoft licenses, and then install our Enterprise software. We never use the preinstalled version, and we never use the license key we pay for that comes with ...more »

10 hr day/ 4 day work week

I suggest you take a look at which Government offices can go to a 10 hr, 4 day work week. This would save Billions of dollars and help decrease our carbon footprint.

Stop encouraging wasteful spending at the end of the fiscal year.

At the end of every fiscal year, emails are sent out advertising that we have money that we "need" to spend. This is ridiculous. Orginizations should be able to to carry over money to the next year instead of spending it to prevent a reduction in next years budget. There are several projects that I'm aware of that are facing the chicken and the egg problem. We need to buy a new system that will save xx dollars each ...more »

Iraq and Afganistan... Contractors Doing Soldiers Jobs.

Quit hiring Contractors to do Soldiers jobs in Iraq and Afganistan... When I was deployed in Iraq the one thing that realy bothered me was the fact that soldiers who were trained to be cooks, quarter masters, water specialists ect.. were not doing their jobs while deployed, they were only doing guard duty, and if you dont know, pulling guard duty while deployed sucks... The Gov Hired contractors to come in and cook and ...more »

Eliminate "Use or Lose" Spending

Eliminate the "use or lose" spending mentality. Every year Gov organizations waste money on things they don't really need so they can clear out their budget. If they don't do that they are punished by not getting as much money the next year. How about creating a reward system for organizations that save money instead of punishing those that don't spend enough.

3 HOURS GRANTED PER WEEK - CIVILIAN FITNESS PROGRAM - HEALTH AND WELLNESS

I would like to encourage the DoD, and all agencies under OPM to expand its emphasis on improving and encouraging health and wellness plans within agencies. The use of DoD and OPM directives to make broad statements about general health and wellness programs does not encourage agencies to think ‘outside of the box.’ My recommendation would be to create a ‘toolkit’ of programs that individual agencies could use, with OPM ...more »

Use commercial search engines like Expedia for Government travel.

Use internet search engines like Expedia for Government travel. We need to renegotiate a better deal for flights and hotels that are Government contracted, that would include the use of common search engines for travel. I have found flights to be considerably less expensive when I have compared our contracted flights to that found in search engines like Kayak, Orbitz, etc… At the very least, allow for Government travelers ...more »
