Donate Sick Leave to Sick People

Have the ability to donate Sick Leave to sick people rather than (or instead of) Annual Leave. This would lessen the incentive to use up sick leave in one's last couple years. Keep the responsible employees around and know that they will continue to perform (and come to work regularly) until they actually retire. The current "buyback" of sick leave is better than before and still could use improvement.

Actually Recycle, in all federal offices

Actually recycle and have receptacles available in the office. We need to ensure that items get recycled and not wasted. Especially in non federal buildings when space is leased. This sounds simplistic, but would make a huge difference if fully implemented.

SICK LEAVE INVESTMENT

Allow federal employees to have their unused sick leave credited towards their share of health care plan cost when they retire. This will create more incentive to come to work, and cut down on sick leave abuse. Through the employee being "on the job", this would promote efficiency. A scale could be established for the government's contribution towards the health plan for the retiree based on his/her unused sick leave ...more »

Stop providing free parking to HUD management officials at gov't expense.

Stop providing free parking to HUD management officials at government expense and instead get more disabled parking spaces for employees who need it. Currently 'in the bldg' parking spaces for HUD management officials are being paid for thru the lease with GSA... many of these are not even being used.... and then when disabled employees need parking HUD has to procure additional disabled parking at higher rates or not ...more »

Shut Off All Non-essential Electronics

Shut off all non-esential computers, printers, faxes, lighting, etc. at night and weekends (at all agencies) automatically if possible. Designate times/days or ad hoc notification for updates and patches. Even in sleep mode or logged off they waste a lot of energy.

Expand Telework days & options

Allow workers to telework 4 or 5 days a week. This would encourage agencies to allow for digital documentation and would cut down on space rent, supplies etc. Not to mention the savings in electricity and carbon emissions by having all these people work from home and not driving.

Contracting OUT is a WASTE.

We always talk about saving money. We need to stop contracting out all the work and promote job stability by keeping the work inhouse and letting those that have done the work for years and years continue to do the work. Contractors have to be trained, which is time and money. Training coming from the very same people who did it from the start. While these contractors handle your work you handle their mistakes and all ...more »

Offer BETTER Buy-outs

Offer buy-outs that would not penalize eligible employees. There are so many retirement age employees who refuse to leave because of the loss of money. Offer buy-outs which would minimize the loss of income and then hire new employees and train them appropriately.

SELF+1 HEALTH INSURANCE BENEFIT OPTION

Currently, federal employees enrolled in the Federal Health Insurance Benefits Plan have only 2 options, Self and Family. This proposal is to add a new Self +1 option which would help those employees who are married or have a significant other and no dependent children. The premuim cost for this new option would fall between the Self and the Family options. This would give this group of employees more cost effective ...more »
