Require Agency to Implement TeleWork Policy For All Eligible Positions

Increase the number of people working from home by requiring that agencies implement, support, and enforce their policies and allow ALL individuals in positions which have been identified as eligible to work remotely to work from home. Use the pay periods as measures and set up a schedule where half the office works from home on Monday/Wednesday/Friday of the first week and Tuesday and Thursday of the second week and ...more »

Change Coinage/Monetary system - Save $2 Billion/year

Change the monetary system utilizing two specific approaches as follows: (1) Eliminate the dollar bill and use the dollar coin as is now done in most other countries (estimated savings of $1 billion/year per GAO and other studies). This would provide a significant greening of the environment as the coins are environmentally neutral; whereas the dollar bills contain hazardous material and cause damage to the environment ...more »

Firing Employees Who Do Not Show Up for Work

I suggest the government use the same practice as private industry does when an employee doen't show up for work repeatly. It would take less than a week for Private Industry to fire the employee. The government can take up to 6 months to fire an employee. Money is wasted by going thru various processes. If an employee does not come to work repeatly, then fire the employee.

Telecommuting Privileges

I suggest that you increase the telecommuting privileges of government employees, conditional on the approval of their supervisors, from once a fortnight to as and when it is actually necessary for them to appear in the office for the following reasons: Most mid-level employees are involved in the production, editing and analysis of documentation so they rarely need to be in the office and their work effort is easily ...more »

Stop improper payments to the deceased!

Reduce improper payments to federal benefit recipients made after death by electronically capturing their death notification from funeral homes (within 48 hours) and consolidated “Do Not Pay” databases, electronically match to their payment files, and stop the payment before it is disbursed. Improper payments reported after the recipients’ death by the four federal benefit agencies (SSA, OPM, VA, and RRB) in FY07, FY08, ...more »

DIGITIZE FAXING!

Agency Wide Shared Services (AWSS) should make an electronic fax service available to all areas of government. Faxing is currently time-consuming and expensive - and think of all the paper that’s wasted! Better technology is available and it’s time we put it to use. Ideally, the process would be as straightforward as sending electronic, unprinted documents online (via E-mail possibly). And we would be able to receive ...more »

Make it easier to fire non-performing employees

Make it easier to fire people who do not perform. The ones who come in late, take a long lunch and then leave early. The ones who create a culture in which competent people are punished with more work and less recognition because overpaid individuals know that they can get away with doing nothing all day and taking home a large paycheck anyway. All because they know they work for the Feds, and that comes with a guarantee ...more »

credits only for citizens

I suggest you make all the credits that are available on the Federal tax returns only available to citizens of the US with a valid SSN number. As a contact representative, I see the abuse on a daily basis of credits that are going to our bordering countries for illegals with Individual taxpayer indentification numbers family members that live in their countries not the US. It is time we take care of Americans first. ...more »

CHANGE THE MENTALITY OF EMPLOYEES BY CHANGING THE WAY ORIENTATION AND TRAINING ARE CONDUCTED FOR NEW HIRES

I suggest we change the governmental mentality of employees from day 1 by restructuring new hire orientation and training. Here at the IRS, recruitment uses several catchy and effective slogans when hiring like, “It all adds up.” or “Count on me.” For new hires though, the slogans stop. It is time to adopt one – “Let’s be accountable.” Under my proposed philosophy we will stop promoting waste among employees and shift ...more »
