Per Diem

I suggest the MI&E rates (not lodging rates) be lowered to 60% of their current rate. It currently lowers to 60% on day 31 of most long-term details. This suggests that it does not need to be so high for days 1 - 30. This would save millions of dollars in sending employees to trainings, work groups, or details. This would also diminish the current public image of government employees eating expensive meals on the... more »

Create a Department of Government Travel

I suggest you create a separate department to administer to and regulate government travel. Its purpose would be to maximize fuel efficiency, implement and promote teleconferencing in lieu of most government employees' use of unneeded travel and create a consolidated regulation of the implementation of the latest electric vehicles.

Discontinue early dismissal before Holidays.

The President could save over half a billion dollars by simply discontinuing an unofficial benefit that has been exercised over the last few years. The day before most/all holidays, employees are dismissed 3 hours early. There are 10 holidays. According to Bureau of Labor Statistics, the Federal Government employs more than 1.8 million civilian staff. Assuming the average hourly rate is $20 per hour… simple math…... more »

1 CHILD ONLY POLICY

Institute a 1-Child Only Policy. We cannot sustain the infrastructure and the resources required for all these people. STOP BREEDING!!! This would save billions of dollars and reduce our carbon footpint. We could eliminate the child tax credit as well.

Assistance is Needed

I suggest you assign several HR people to read all of these and weed out the employees working for the government that not only seem to have a LOT of time on their hands, but may even be in need of intervention. I hope none of these people have their hands anywhere NEAR a button or lever.

Cancel 2011 pay raise for federal employees

Federal employees can afford to - and should - do our part to control federal spending in this era of growing deficits and national debt - and especially given the plight of so many unemployed Americans. The most immediate way we can help is to recommend that the President cancel any 2011 federal pay raise.

United States Department of Communications

I suggest a: United States Department of Communications This would be a New Cabinet Office! The department will be organized with four principal bodies 1) Department Head Quarters 2) Military Affairs 3) Federal Sector Affairs 4) Public Sector Affairs The key governing board would meet each month with selected businesses (i.e. IBM, HP, Microsoft etc) that would address current and future trends in business so the U.S.... more »

Limit Holidays to Actual HOLIDAYS

Times are tough and the American workers see this but civil service workers are somewhat shielded by our "system". For the foreseeable future, all holidays that fall on weekends should not be given days off. For example, the recent Independence Day (4th of July) fell on a Sunday. But the entire Government was given the following Monday off. This appears as an entitlement - especially when the rest of the U.S.A. working... more »

Budget Formulation Policy Streamlining

Each agency is required to prepare and issue a policy on budget formulation in conformance with OMB Circular A-11. However, there is a statutory requirement that no agency can issue its policy until a very busy office within OMB approves the policy. This generally involves a waiting period many months or even a year or two long. What if the OMB approval were replaced with the requirement that the policy state that... more »

Allow us to submit ideas that aren't posted on this site.

I strongly recommend that we have the option of submitting ideas that are not publicly visible. I'd like to recommend abolition of an agency that duplicates the work of other agencies; however, if the recommendation is posted on a public website, the people who work for the agency will be able to identify who submitted it. If the recommendation isn't going to be implemented, I'd prefer not to alienate the people who... more »

Eliminate the CFC Government wide

Think of how many Federal agencies there are in the Government. Each agency has many people who are dedicated to collecting for CFC as their primary or secondary function. Countless hours are wasted annually on collecting money, organizing events and employees spending time away from work for CFC fund raisers. The money collected by Federal Employees, on Government time, goes to non-Federal Government purposes. If we... more »

Reduce The Number of Helicopter (Marine One) Decoys

I propose that helicopter flights between the White House and Andrews Naval Air Facility on Marine One (and Marine Two), which transport the President and Vice-President, fly in fewer numbered groups. Currently, an average of three helicopters appear to be used (with two serving as decoys). My idea is to limit the number of decoys to one on routine trips. Understanding the nature and purpose of decoy flights, I still... more »
