Have assisted Internet filing in field offices via computers available to the public (limited Internet access to the SSA website) in lobbies and waiting rooms where people can file for benefits on-line who do not have computers or may need a little help with the Internet. One Claims Rep could assist 4-8 people at once versus a 1:1 ration of teleclaim or in-office appointment.
Eliminate the payment of auxilliary benefits to retirees to save money and extend the solvency of Social Security. The decision to have children at an older age and at what age to stop working are just that- individual decisions, versus forced circumstances, such as benefits to auxillaries of those who become disabled or widowed. Those auxilliary benefits should be continued.
Standardize the way the Social Security Administration writes the Social Security numbers across all platforms and in all notices: either with hyphens: 000-00-0000, with spaces: 000 00 0000 or without any division 000000000 to make short-cuts like copy/paste work easily and to standardize documentation.
Eliminate the $255 lump sum death benefit. With the largest generation of all time getting to retirement age, this will be an enormous savings. The amount paid does not really assist in a meaningful way with the high cost of burial expenses. The savings could be used to extend solvency of Social Security or to eliminate the 24 month waiting period for disabled workers to receive Medicare.
