I suggest that USDA FSIS will revive Risk Based Inspection and sample testing program. Performing risk based inspection will help to more accurately allocate recourses and identify food born pathogens.
Currently most inspection tasks and sampling are provided randomly without taking in consideration
specifics of each food processing plant .It is very costly, time consuming and not very effective
inspection. Risk based inspection inspection procedures will be scheduled to target higher risk products and processes. Risk based sampling will save millions by sampling based on the data collected from the specific establishements, where samples will be collected depending on the prevalence of pathogens, volume of production, risk level of product and etc
In my opinion it would be more accurate and cost saving, where more emphasis will be done at the most problematic areas, targeting most prevalent pathogen,
allowing USDA inspection employees more effectively perform their tasks in order to protect Public Health.
