Checking traditional voicemail takes far too long, and there's no good way to quickly reference specific details without listening to the entire message again. Transcription software would improve responsiveness, productivity, and recordkeeping, especially for those who receive a large call volume.
Traditional fax machines are extremely wasteful. However, many employees across the government need to send and receive faxes for a variety of reasons. Interoffice mail should be limited to items that cannot be scanned and emailed (or posted to a shared folder or workspace). If employees have access to a high speed scanner, no document is too long to be scanned and emailed. Many document circulation processes (e.g. for working drafts, incoming letters, etc) involve hard copies being sent around. Also seems like there are a lot of processes with an "official" part which involves the "formal" hard copy circulation, while the electronic version of the same documents are sent for review via email or posted to a shared folder/workspace. A fully indexed and searchable wiki (or document management system) that would allow designated personnel within each agency/component/office to share (and update) information and ideas.
