Destruction of operationl printers & scanners
I am with TSA at SNA airport. Today I noticed that our contract IT person was boxing up unused scanners and printers that are still operational. I was advised that this equipment was no longer being used or was outdated equipment. I asked him if we are donating the equipment to a local charity or schools? I was informed that it is against DHS policy to donate the equipment and that all of the hardware must be destroyed. ...more »

I was informed that it is against DHS policy to donate the equipment and that all of the hardware must be destroyed. Why is TSA allowed to donate prohibited items collected at the checkpoints to a local charities, but when it comes to operational equipment we are told to destroy it?
