Stop ordering pallets of local phone books! Send an email for request, and then obtain an exact number requested, no more. We will find that most people do not need or want a phone book, and many only take it because it is sitting there so they feel they might as well, but they would never have gone out of their way to request it because they don't need it. Save the money and the paper.
Change Policy to give electronic format for all requests, unless other format is specifically stated. For example, responding to freedom of information act requests, all paper documents must remain paper, one sided printing, in the current policy. Eliminate personal desktop printers Use printing stations for all, defaulting to double sided printing. In the event of confidencial material, individuals can submit a request to aquire a desktop printer, but this would drastically reduce printer and ink purchases, and paper as more people will not be temped to print as much because it will not be at their fingertips.
