I suggest replacing on-station use only vehicles with smaller gasoline or electric vehicles (mini-work trucks, golf cart type vehicles etc). These vehicles are more energy efficient, cost less to purchase and maintain and will allow more personnel access vice having to drive personal vehicles around the command for govt business.
I suggest the Defense Travel System (DTS) be fixed to enforce use of government lodging as primary lodging source for all Mil/Civ/CTR personnel traveling under orders and allow non-govt lodging ONLY in the case of a non-availability. DTS currently does not give the ability to do this.
I suggest DoD (and this could apply to other Government Organizations also) adopt more use of Voice over IP (VOIP) in at all shore based installations. It would reduce the number of “outside” lines required by an installation (at my current installation, each outside line cost $12.50 per month). I suggest all government organizations (not just DoD) rethink the number of printers/scanners/copiers and fax machines in their spaces. Not everyone needs a printer/scanner/fax/copier on their desk. A few well placed multifunction devices (network printers, digital senders, common use FAX's and copiers) will save on numbers of different toner/ink cartridges to be stocked, will save on repairs costs, will save on electricity, ...more »
