Cut down on the number of additional duties. We spend a lot of man hours on additional duties. Every office does not need a safety monitor. Cleaners sold over the counter do not need a HAZMAT program. If you narrow down the number of offices that need every program implemented, the offices that need to be monitored will receive more attention, and the monitors will better be able to do their jobs. Cut out the conferences. There should be more Video Teleconferencing, and less travel. There is not a need to fly for a meeting and then be put up in a 5 star hotel. You could save a lot of money if everyone didn't travel as much.
Cut down on excessive TDY travel. I have seen several officers that spend 3 weeks a month with their family living away from their duty station. When they return to their duty station for a week or two, they receive TDY pay. They either need to live at their duty station, or pay out of pocket to travel back and forth.
Cut down on the amount of money spent on Smartphones.I see people go through them like chocolate bars. Everytime the next best thing comes out, commanders have to have them, so everyone gets one. You are talking around up to $1000 a head, with a reader. If the troops don't have money to get trained and go TDY, there surely isn't money for a new smart phone everytime they come out.
Reduce the number of GO aides. They are supposed to be used to help with "official business" but I have heard many stories of them being forced to go grocery shopping for the spouse or clean out a garage for the spouse. There should be limited aides, and they should have to be reserved for their services. It is a waste of personnel.
