Provide the same fixed dollar amount to all employees, regardless of how they commute to work. Currently, those who park for "free" often receive a higher financial benefit than those who walk, bike, use transit, or telework. The high cost of parking is absorbed by taxpayers. These "free" parking costs include the market rate for parking, environmental pollution, noise pollution, car accidents, road and bridge maintenance, climate change, among other costs to taxpayers. Taxpayers are also paying for monitoring transhare programs and parking management. If all employees get the same amount, you can eliminate the transhare management and parking management programs. This will dramatically reduce administrative costs, reduce environmental damage (due to fewer employees driving alone), reduce car accidents, reduce parking demand, and provide equitable distribution of employee benefits.
