GSA accepts vehicles back into the motor pool when keys are lost. I recently picked up a vehicle from GSA in St. Louis and there was only one key. When I asked about it I was told “the Marine Corp never turns in all the vehicle keys when they are through with a car”. I was then told that we could go to the local Chevrolet dealer and have another key made and GSA would pay for it. The electronic key cost over $200 and required at least ten hours of lost employee time moving the vehicles to and from the shop. The fact it never crosses GSA’s mind to hold the using agency responsible for turning in the keys with a vehicle is a tribute to the incompetence, indifference and inefficiency of GSA.
